Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing an operation nearly two weeks ago.
Passaris had spinal surgery at the Care Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Ahmedabad, India on January 1st and has been recuperating at the facility.
“Discharged and recuperating with physio, counselling & wound care. Dr @prizz_gopu, Dr @DipaliVaghela2 and Nirrali my care giver have been invaluable. Got two scheduled blood tests in the coming days. All being well, I’ll be home very soon. Thank you all for your kind wishes,” Passaris announced through Twitter on Sunday.
This was the third time in a period of one year that Passaris, 55, has been admitted to hospital for surgery. Last September, she had an operation at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi to address issues with her back pain that dated back to 20 years ago when she gave birth to her son.
In January 2019, Passaris underwent thyroidectomy at the Nairobi Hospital, a procedure that saw her lose both thyroid glands.
this chick blocked me on…
this chick blocked me on twitter for calling her out on not building back home and running to India for care. wanakula peoples money without thinking. pumbavu hao. shenzi ya mwisho.AND STILL GET SUB STANDARD CARE IN INDIA.
And what is the reality and…
And what is the reality and perception of politicians going to India and other foreign countries for medical treatment while the ordinary Kenyans do not have medicines and proper care in the local dispensaries?
And what is the plight of those Kenyans who have suffered so much abuse from the politicians they elected to build quality hospitals for them? I guess once someone pay Kshs 20,000,000.00 to buy an election does not have to be answerable to the electorates.
The running away by politicians to India, Germany, South Africa, etc, to gets medical treatment will not stop until the electorates start to fight for their rights by letting the politicians know that they can’t travel to India while themselves can’t do the same!
The Kenyan electorates have to start taking stock of their plights seriously and then begin to think of a clear way forward. They must demand good and affordable hospitals to be build locally. But then I beg to wonder about all the 47 level 5 hospitals build in every county but have no medicine and qualified doctors.
They elect selfish locally brewed neocons who has no interest in making Kenya great for all to live a comfortable life.
Who paid for her surgery in India? A set medical kitty for the waheshimiwa in parliament? What an insult to ordinary Kenyans; what a mess?
The funny thing is the fact that India is not all that advanced in the field of medicine. Indians are also very racist when it comes to dealing with black people. Oh, I’m sorry – Passaris skin color can qualify to the color of the black Indians who tend to be looked down by their light skin color Indians.
It is fairly difficult to put all this into context – real perspective for Kenyans to understand. Wow, colonialism brought a lot mental sickness to our people and it will take a long time to have this mental sickness exorcised out of simple minds!
@Maina, well said.The power…
@Maina, well said.The power is with the electorate.They dont hold our politicians accountable. Tell me, if Kenya shortly after independence was at par with Singapore,South Korea,and Thailand,what happened? Look at Singapore now, from a third world country 30 years ago,to now being raked 7 with the highest GDP per capita in the world.It also interesting to note that it garnered independence in 1963.
I refuse to accept that we are inferior.There are many africans doing very well in diaspora/africa for that matter,and holding positions of influence,and power,and not corrupt.So we have the brains,and the manpower.What is the problem then?Certainly I believe @ Maina you wonder about this things as well.
I have seen patients share hospital beds.Can you fathom of all places to share beds. Some sleeping in corridors.Not to mention those who are brought to hospital in wheelbarrows.And that is 50 plus years after independence.So I ask, what makes the electorate “docile” in the midst of all these inefficiencies,and ineffectiveness? Why dont they camp at the ministry of health and demand better service,and improved amenities?
We have now established that our so called waheshimiwa,are only after filling their tummies,and those of their mistresses…
I implore the electorate to throw them all out. How long do we have to swallow their lies,and token donations sprinkled here,and there,while real issues pressing wananchi are never addressed.
Yes come 2022,let’s throw them all out,and take a chance with fresh and progressive minds.We can nolonger afford to recirle the same old politicians,with old minds,old ideas,and expect to leap out of these doldrums…
Lets listen to new,and young politicians with open minds,and innovative ideas garnered from modern education;not that of 60 years ago. So people we have the power to chance things for the better.THE VOTE for the right leaders.My two cents.
@maxiley – you have…
@maxiley – you have articulated everything that is in my head very well. One thing you said best is that Africans are not inferior regardless of the sickening seeds that the colonial masters planted in Africa and across the world.
Let me put it like this – black people must know “who they are are and not allow anyone to put labels on them!” We must liberate our thought process about “who we are before we can ask others to put value and respect who we are!”
It is as simple as being very proud of yourself, know who you are, and diligently work to live a life if honesty in all your dealings!
One major problem I find among us is a colossal failure to work as team, support one another when necessary, the appetite to crave for free things (rides) corrupt minds, jealousy, and lack of pride as a people!
Just think how Indians operate in Kenya? They take their own and start some business to help them out.
I don’t want to talk about myself, but please know I have helped many deserving fellas start small businesses – some are success now and others did not get off the ground simply because the recipients failed to stick to the plan. I find pride taking such a responsibility because Kenya can’t succeed unless every citizen is able to live a comfortable life.
Others just conned me in broad day light. I do these things hoping that the ones I helped can turn around and help others. A domino sort of effect to move the country forward.
We must start some place and stick to a plan that can eliminate poverty among our people. We also got to educate our kids and create better jobs that can allow them to contribute to the economy.
Kenya has folks with great potential to do unimaginable things. Most people work very hard and long hours. They have deep faith in the various endeavors they get involved in. They want a better standard of living. They want Kenya’s GDP to grow at higher levels.
Their are many Kenyans who are found fabulously well but have not enjoyed what they have so hard worked for because they are being pulled down by the larger poor masses. A country is better off when everyone is pushing forward together!
But there is a huge problem with one class of people – the politicians who have stolen nearly everything from us through corruption. As a matter of fact, corruption has become a major sickness in Kenya and Africa at large. A nations wealth can not just be a preserve of the few on top.
We must root out corruption by imposing painful punitive measures to the corrupt politicians. The politicians, those in the judiciary and civil servants should be locked up Once anyone is accused of corruption. Kenya should declare state of emergency to fight corruption; to deal a heavy blow to individuals and cartels stealing from the people!
No one should be authorized to run for any political office without an audit being conducted to account for everything they own. It is not difficult to declare any kind of wealth if it is legally acquired.
For instance, DP Ruto must be barred from running for presidency because of the lap-sheet of the corruption deals currently associated with him. Stealing public resources must be taken very seriously if we are going to root out corruption.
I still believe that Kenya will some day, hopefully soon, rise up from the ashes and arrive to the levels of Indonisia, South Korea, some East European countries which have gone through recent civil wars – Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia, etc.
We owe to ourselves to get things right in Kenya. And yes, together we can do it!
@ Maina,it boggles my mind…
@ Maina,it boggles my mind when the president talks of eradicating corruption,and pretty much doing nothing to the noted criminals whom we all know.
Being corrupt in Kenya is bad enough,but extending this vile to international level,is beyond me. Here Iam talking about doping in international athletics.I dont know how much you follow athletics in Kenya.A good number of our athletes have resorted to doping to enhance their performance.Many have been caught,and banned from competition,internationally, for afew year.Note that these international circuits like the Diamond League are lucrative,and give athletes a decent Income…The latest victim is Wilson Kipsang aformer world marathon champion.These doping athletes know what they are doing.They just hope that they are not caught.You may recall that Kenya was almost banned from the 2016 Olympics for doping(Not to mention kits that disappeared,and were found in homes of organizes).And may be not surprisingly to many, the female marathon winner in those Olympics,Kenyan Sumngong was found guilty,and banned for I believe 8-4 years.
This has put a stain on the good name athletes like Keino,Eliud,Vivian,and the rest of clean athletes have worked so hard to attain.
Now Olympic game are coming up. It will be unforgivable if Kenyans are found to dope in the coming 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
What’s so hard about banning these doping athletes for life?We have enough clean ones… Just like we have good hard working clean leaders. Yes it comes down to the choices we want to make as a nation.

@ Maina,this just came in after my response… interesting.
She has been writing all…
She has been writing all those tweets from hospital bed?
We thank God for healing you…
We thank God for healing you. When you are well and back in Kenya, remember there are so many women in similar conditions after giving birth. Work with your counterparts and use your charm to start better health care for such women. Push the government or use your friends to build such an institution. Leave a legacy my dear. Not everyone of us has the privilege to travel to India for specialized treatment. Let you name, Passaris live long after you are gone. Do not just give us news of your healing, tell us what you are going to do. Welcome to Nairobi.
@kamande – I hope some day…
@kamande – I hope some day that Mama Mboga can get similar medical care right in Kenya. She gives birth and two days later she is hustling on the streets of Nairobi selling cabbage to survive.
But, utakanyuirire woi ndoi ati karirita! Na ruo ruriaga mwene ……. So I hope her surgery will cause her to wake up and do something for all the mama mbogas!!
Passaris can make a better use of the CDF money to build a hospital that can cater to the needs of women with similar medical issues.
As for now, I think you are just talking to Passaris “palm of her hand” and possibly you are asking too much when you start mentioning her “imaginary friends” – which ones?
