Gov't Reduces Retired Presidents Moi, Kibaki Pensions by Sh15 Million

Retired Presidents Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki are set to receive reduced pension in the next financial year.

This is after the government, through National Treasury cut their annual allocation by Sh15 million.

The Treasury has allocated Sh96.5 million for the two ex-Presidents for their pension, down from Sh116.6 million allocated in the current financial year.

This means that the two will get a monthly payout of Sh4.65 million each, which way high that President Kenyatta’s monthly salary which stands at Sh1.2 million.

In 2015, the High Court blocked the government from paying allowances to the two former head of states worth millions of shillings, ruling that the move would place an “unnecessary burden to the taxpayers”, but the Attorney-General appealed the ruling, allowing the two to continue enjoying the packages.

The two were entitled to Sh379,500 monthly house allowance, a fuel allowance of Sh247,500, Sh247,500 for entertainment and utilities of Sh379,500 before the court nullified the packages.

The two are also entitled to two personal assistants, four secretaries, four messengers, four drivers, and security details.

  1. What kind of a country are…
What kind of a country are we? Uhuru gets 1.2 million a month for working everyday and Moi and Kibaki gets 4.65 million a month each sitting at home. What kind of brains make such decisions for the country. How can we trust the people who make such decisions to make decisions for the whole country. No wonder, people cannot accept they lost elections knowing once they get there they will be milking the young all the way to their graves. We need new thinking. Soon, when we have more retired presidents, we will be a country of retirees and slaves.

  2. This is called fleecing of…
This is called fleecing of public coffers. Corruption to the core. These retired public officials are millionaires over and over. They should not be allowed to continue stealing from the wananchi. No one should be paid that kind of money after stealing so much money while in the office. What a corrupt country.

  3. For heavenly sake can they…
For heavenly sake can they return what they stole from GoK before they go to the next world.

  4. Just wondering, how can one…
Just wondering, how can one’s monthly pension be more than what he earned while in office? This does not make sense at all. No wonder everyone is fighting to get into (government office)to qualify for pension , without delivering the required services. Kenya we need a savior.

  5. Why the heck are we still…
Why the heck are we still paying people who wrecked our beloved country? They should not get anything since they made too much, legally or illegally while they held the public trust.

  6. Ngai baba, my only question…
Ngai baba, my only question is which idiots wrote this particular portion of the Constitution? Four secretaries, four drivers like they have four pairs of butts, four messagers, really? Who needs secretaries and Messengers in this century? Surprisinglh none of the two old men have raised issues with this esp moi who ran this country to the ground. At 90’s where would nyayo be sending messages to?
