Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua now wants President Kenyatta to reward his Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party with government appointments for backing his reelection bid.
Speaking during a meeting at MCC party headquarters in Lavingtone, Nairobi on Saturday, Mutua said the President should repay the party for solidly backing him during the last presidential elections.
“As a party, we support the politics and government of President Uhuru Kenyatta but we’d like our participation in his government to be felt.”
He added: “We are going to ask very strongly that our participation is felt in terms of members of Parliament in committees, in county assembly the position that MCC members are given and also in appointment of cabinet secretaries, ambassadors, permanent secretaries and other high officials in President Uhuru’s government.”
“We’ve stood by President Uhuru since the campaigns period to now but we don’t want to be taken for granted. We want our support to be acknowledged by action. We will ensure MCC members get their rights. We are going to put our foot down on this,” said Mutua.
The meeting brought together MCC elected and nominated leaders to lay down strategies ahead of Governor Mutua’s 2022 presidential bid.
Mutua also called on the head of state to crack the whip on corrupt government officials. “We are telling the President that he should not have mercy on these people; land grabbers, people who do deals so that government projects are inflated, people who are taking bribes such that people are dying on our roads like dogs; we want action taken and we want to see this starting now because Maendeleo Chap-Chap is a party of action,” Governor Mutua stated.

If you survive the petition,(and advisedly drop the “chap chap” tag) you stand a good chance as a compromise DP candidate in 2022.
