14 Dead, Scores Injured in Police Truck Accident in Baringo

Fourteen people have lost their lives while scores others sustained injuries after an Administration Police truck they were being ferried in was involved in an accident at Moinonin area along the Marigat-Loruk road in Baringo County.

The fourteen including; three men, 10 women and a child died on the spot. While confirming the incident, Baringo North Sub-County Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Sheh Muhammed said the lorry was carrying some residents to Kapedo and 5 Administration Police officers, who had travelled to Marigat to buy food stuff for their colleagues attached to Kapedo AP Camp.

Baringo AP Commandant Robinson Ndiwa said the accident occurred at around 1.30pm Saturday after the truck driver lost control of vehicle and veered off the road, rolling several times.

“It is very unfortunate because we have lost lives in the tragic accident.

“Thirteen adults and one child have been confirmed dead while three police officers are critically injured and have been taken to Baringo County Referral Hospital in Kabarnet for specialised treatment,” said Ndiwa.

“The police officers stationed at Kapedo had gone to Marigat Town to buy foodstuffs and were involved in the accident [while] on their way back to Kapedo.”

Those injured were rushed to Baringo County Referral Hospital in Kabarnet for treatment. Bodies of the dead have been moved to Baringo County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
