President Uhuru Promises State Job to Former Meru Governor Peter Munya

President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised a state appointment to former Meru governor Peter Munya if he withdraws a petition he filed challenging the election of Kiraitu Murungi.

Speaking during a campaign tour of Meru region on Friday, the Head of State asked the two leaders to iron out their differences like “grown men” and promised to work with Mumya in the national government while Kiraitu serves Meru county.

“I urge Mr Munya and Mr Murungi to meet and resolve their differences. I am ready to chair the talks to see them work together,” Uhuru said.

However, while addressing residents when he accompanied Uhuru in the tour, Munya steered clear of the issue and declined to reveal whether he would drop the petition.

In a meeting with President Uhuru at State House last week, the two leaders agreed to bury the hatchet and unite to campaign for the President’s reelection ahead of October 26th repeat election. The duo also pledged to unite their their supporters and residents of Meru County.

Munya contested for the Meru governor seat on a PNU Party ticket and garnered 232,569 votes, but was defeated by Kiraitu Murungi who got 281,737 on a Jubilee party ticket.
