The German Embassy in Nairobi has issued a call to action for Kenyan university graduates seeking employment in Germany.
The embassy has advised Kenyans to apply for a Statement of Comparability. The embassy notes that obtaining the Statement of Comparability is a crucial step in gaining an edge in the German job market. This official document, conveniently obtainable online through the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) website, serves as a vital tool for skilled workers.
The Statement of Comparability acts as a bridge between your Kenyan academic credentials and the German system. It provides detailed information about your university degree, program, and institution, along with program duration, study mode, and graduation details. This transparency allows German government entities, embassies, and potential employers to readily assess your qualifications, opening doors to new opportunities.
This new initiative directly relates to President William Ruto’s recent European trip where he secured a commitment from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to grant work visas to skilled and semi-skilled Kenyans. This agreement builds upon a promise made in May 2023 during Scholz’s visit to Kenya, with President Ruto expressing his intention to travel to Germany soon to further solidify the implementation details.
Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Florence is encouraging Kenyans to learn German in pursuit of potential job opportunities in Berlin. In a statement released on Sunday, Bore revealed that she travelled to Germany on Saturday to further explore these opportunities. In the meantime, President William Ruto has revealed that a long-standing agreement between Kenya and Germany, which aims to provide 250,000 job opportunities, is on the verge of being finalized before June 2024.
