52 more Kenyans have been evacuated from Afghanistan capital Kabul following the political unrest caused by the Taliban takeover of the country.
Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo on Thursday evening announced that 12 Kenyans who were working as private contractors in the Arab nation were airlifted to Birmingham in the UK while another group of 40 was evacuated to Kazakhstan. The Foreign Affairs Ministry said the evacuation was organized by the Kenyan Embassy in Beijing, China.
“Kenyan missions in the region continue to reach out to Kenyans employed in the security sector and others engaged by private companies who are yet to be evacuated by their employers,” Omamo said.
She noted that three more Kenyans are stranded in Kabul and efforts are being made to rescue them.
“For those who wish to be evacuated, the Kenyan Missions will continue to reach out to the private companies to ensure the safety and welfare of the Kenyan nationals,” Omamo added.
The ministry had earlier said that three out of 12 Kenyans working for international agencies in Kabul were evacuated back to Kenya. One was working for the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) while the other two were employed by Action Contre la Faim (ACF).
The actual number of Kenyan nationals who are still stuck in the Asian nation is unknown. Several countries including the US and the UK have been evacuating their citizens from the country after Taliban militants took over Kabul on Sunday.
I hope these negroes were…
I hope these negroes were working in embassy as Afghanistan is a very poor country
The Kenyans there were…
The Kenyans there were probably working for the American companies there such as Brown and Root, hair dressing and barber shops, cooking and selling in small coffee shops, etc.
The Kenyan workers are on average paid $1000.00 per month with all basic necessities – food, accommodations, free makeshift cloth washing places provided by the employers for free! The freedom of movement is very restricted due to the dangers of conflict and lawlessness!
Kenyan workers in Afghanistan live is some make-shift tent like structures – each with a little cubical and toilet/shower facilities outside build by the hiring companies.
The bigger gifts shops owned and ran by the locals rarely employ Kenyans! These shops sell “bling bling shiny cheap ornaments”, clothings – such as tailored suits (pretty nice cashmere suits for $40 ish bucks) and a multipurpose of other items!
It is a very poor country with rugged Rocky dry Mountains, mostly dry and very unpalatably bitter climate! Very dirty and dusty all the time and nothing good to see in sight!
The country has been at war with itself for a long time, with Russia and for over 20 years with the US!
The Talibans ran their defensive operations from the rugged mountains firing rock propelled small arms to the intended targets down range mostly at night or during the day depending on the intended purpose! It is a very deadly place indeed!
The weapons used by Taliban fighters are cheap Russian/chinese made weaponry but deadly enough to cause enough casualties when deployed. I’m sure the Talibans have now stolen some US made weapons since the ran the former US sponsored government out of town; literally!!
I can just imagine the kind of chaos, commotion and disorderly conducts on the ground now the Talibans are back in control.
@rotten – Kenyans are very…
@rotten – Kenyans are very resilient people! What “working at the embassy are you talking about”? I will try to help you understand basically what Kenyans do in Afghanistan shortly. Take a sit and get just one cold beer! I will be right back after this short coffee break – for me because I don’t do alcoholic beverages!
Now that I just got my big…
Now that I just got my big mug of coffee – decaf for that matter, I want to kindly ask you not to loosely refer to Kenyans working in Afghanistan as “negroes” because it is an insulting term used by white folks to insult and subdue our brothers and sisters mostly in America! It is even worse than Trump calling Africans and Africa – “Shithole”! Please be kind!
The Kenyan men and women working in those places (Afghanistan. Iraq, etc) are purely dare devils looking for a better life outside of Kenya! Many I met out there are very well educated with good University degrees of all kinds. I though about how corruption in Kenyans political arena have squared our country’s employment apparatus every time I can into contact and held a heart to heart discussions with a number of Kenyans working in those countries! But they are very tough, resilient and deeply determined to achieve their goals and dreams.
These Kenyans are thick skinned, tough, daring, and very hopeful! They all have a thick crocodile skin and a strong Teflon mindset! They endure a lot of sacrifices!
Let me also tell you that those Kenyans have invested in small and big businesses in Kenya while working under tough conditions in those countries! They save every dollar they earn to be used for a good purpose in Kenya.
They are also able to support the families they left in Kenya, and as well as educate their children! The Kenyans I ever came across in those countries are fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, and your cousins. Overall very good men and women who are doing something terrific and commendable to change the lives of other, you included, back in Kenya! A great bunch of folks I ever met!
They also contribute to Kenya’s economy through the remittance of money they send back to Kenya – the government heavily taxes them! I wish the government would stop charging them remittance fees for the money they send back to Kenya! They earn that money through hard work, hot sweat, and uncertain conditions.
JKL had a TV show last night with two ladies who worked in Saudi Arabia and everything those women said was true and honest! They talked about being in a home in the desert – where you looked way beyond the horizon, all you see is black mirage looking like small thousands of chameleons trotting across the desert! In Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Afghanistan the average temperature is 130 degree Fahrenheit @ 9:00 AM, and it can quickly get higher. There is the hot sand storms ( heavy desert dust that flows with heavy winds), carrying all types of creatures like poisonous snakes, etc! Those countries are like living in an nightmare environment!
On JKL with the ladies was CS Cheragui brought LT in live on slope! He was on the other side just talking and pending pure propaganda m, lies and disinformation, clearly lying on national TV! I assume as a CS without ground experience you have to lie to impress your employer! But before a CS goes on National TV to lie, we all expect him to do the leg work to make sure his conjured statements have some semblance of the true reality on the ground! We used to call it, “doing some good home work”! He was trying to talk big empty stuff through some self defeating big words like “Due Deligence” which he can’t define! CS Cheragui, please note that Kenyans are very educated these days. They may not have the political favors that you have but Kenyans are very sharp!
He had no clue of the difficulty experiences Kenyans working in those mediocre countries go through! He is a blue color CS whose experience(s) on the ground on dispose workers are grimly limited and deeply disturbing to say the least. His statements and the way he addressed the issues plainly bothered me and frankly did get on my nerves.
I certainly do not think what he promise me to do to assist those suffering in Saudi Arabia on JKL will be done or help anyone working in Saudi Arabia. Iraq, Afghanistan, etc! Adding 7 embassy staff will not solve the problem – and the two well knowledgeable women told him it won’t work! The workers in those countries must be protested from the hiring agents (human traffickers), the embassy in Saudi Arabia must find lasting solutions to the problems affecting Kenyans there, and they must be constantly checking what the employers (who are practicing modern slavery) and killing our Kenyan doing to their employees (worked long hours like slaves)!
CS Cheragui looked confused, out of touch with reality and was just making some ass-like sweeping and insulting statements. And at times talking down to the two ladies because he is a big man without a spine or a noble name to tell the truth! He ought to be fired!
I can tell you @rotten do not know or have any experience of life in Afghanistan, Iraq, or Saudi Arabia! Is that true? I would suggest you try to get out of the comfort zone of Kenya and travel a little bit to see the world before you call hard working diaspora Kenyans all sorts of names to include such demeaning words like “NIGERS”!
Please do not call hard working Kenyans who sacrifice a lot “Negroes”! Do you agree? Please! My mug of decaf coffee is gone bro! Peace and be kind!
damn @charlie! r u sure that…
damn @charlie! r u sure that’s just plain decaf coffee? how come mine doesn’t get me so pumped up? please hook a brotha up, must be buying from all the wrong places
@ Rotten mind indeed calling…
@ Rotten mind indeed calling my fellow Kenyans negroes. If that’s what they call you and you enjoy it wherever you are keep that to yourself.
And to @CS Cheragui – 93…
And to @CS Cheragui – 93 dead Kenyans in three years in Saudi Arabia are not herded goats or some humped emaciated cows in Iten or Sugoi! They are human beings with relatives and Kenyans at large!
The CS argued with Jeff koinange about the number of lives lost – whether 40 in three months or 93 in three years! One life of a Kenyan lost any where in this world is one too many – get it?? Very deeply disturbing of a CS to be this callous!
Those are nearly 100 Kenyans dead under your watch and the watches of other lazy CSs, Employment Agencies you say you have vetted and the Embassy stuff in Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs!
Please don’t go on National tv @cscheragui to talk about a dead or dead Kenyans like “that other goat” that died in the shed! You are a CS man and you should show empathy, concerns and a solid plan of actions when presenting your case to the Kenyan people! Out!
Amazing content from@Charlie…
Amazing content from@Charlie. Such a mind opening analysis. Very informative about people working in the desert countries. I wish we had people like you working in place of @Cherugai(cs) The dude’s head is clogged up with webs of beauracratic tape nonsense. On the other hand.People calling others demeaning name to sound homie like can be so irritating. Tape up their fingers to the keyboard @ Charlie.
