Kenya’s Immigration Department Suspends Passport Applications

Kenya’s Immigration Department has announced the suspension of passport application service until further notice.

The department said the move was informed by the government’s directive to scale down operations in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.

As a result, the current appointments for submission of passport applications and biometrics enrolment have been canceled.

“Directorate of Immigration Services @ImmigrationDept has canceled current appointments for submission of passport applications and biometrics enrolment. This is in line with Government directive to scale down operations in order to curb the spread of COVID-19,” the department said through Twitter on Friday.

“Passport applicants are requested to book afresh new submission dates convenient to them effective Monday, 9th November, 2020.”

Applicants with an urgent need to travel will be required to provide documentary evidence.

“Those with emergency travel needs such as medical emergency, scholarships, employment abroad, or government assignments, they should contact the directorate through our Hotline 0110 922065 during official working hours,” the department added.

Addressing the nation this week, President Kenyatta ordered all government meetings be held virtually to protect public servants and members of the public visiting their officers from the disease.

He further directed civil servants aged above 58 years and those with underlying medical conditions to work from home.
