Kenyan Hollywood actress Lupita Nyong’o on Saturday made a surprise visit to the lakeside city of Kisumu, her home county.
In a visit that received little media attention, the Oscar award winner was on an apparent secret mission accompanied by her aides and a team of investors.
The Standard reports that the Wakanda actress was welcomed by some Kisumu county Executive Committee members among them Archie Alai (Tourism), Salmon Orimba (Environment), Alice Moraa (Trade), Dickson Odhiambo (Urban Planning), County Tourism Director Thomas Ouko and Comedian Jalang’o.
After landing in Kisumu, she was reportedly escorted by a motorcade of more than 15 county government cars. She took the investors to her father – Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, where they held a closed-door meeting.
The Standard said that the meeting discussed supporting local artistes and the film industry in the county and country. Lupita and her delegation later visited talent centres in Kisumu.
Among the centres the group visited was the Goan Institute, where they watched a performance piece, with Lupita joining the dancers on stage. Her other business and the duration she will be in the country remains unknown.

Good for you Lupita. You could show your docile, unimaginative and books cramming dad how to open up Kisumu to theater both locally and internationally as well as films etc. That way, people like Raila who like to use their own as a means to an end will have a difficult time inciting or recruiting stone and twigs throwing gangs. Please bring in fresh ideas so other county incompetent and illiterate governors can copy. You are needed in Kenya, welcome back!
