Kenyan Woman Who Succumbed to Canadian Winter Laid to Rest in Nakuru
The Casket Carrying the Body of the Late Delphina Wambui Ngigi

Delphina Wambui passed away in Toronto, Canada on February 18, 2024.

Her death has left her family grappling with grief and unanswered questions. Wambui’s journey to Canada was fueled by a desire to build a brighter future for her four children. Following the death of her husband Peter Misoi, Wambui, a teacher in Nakuru, felt compelled to seek opportunities abroad to better support her family. Despite facing alleged neglect from her in-laws, she persevered driven by her love for her children.

Wambui’s ambition extended beyond the classroom. In 2022, she endeavoured to serve her community by running for Member of the County Assembly for the Njoro ward. While she was unsuccessful in her election bid, it spoke volumes about her character and her desire to make a positive impact. Sadly, fate took a cruel turn in 2023. Wambui’s father was diagnosed with cancer, and she selflessly resigned from her teaching position to care for him during his illness.

His death in June left the family with a significant financial burden in the form of unpaid hospital bills. It was in the wake of this loss that Wambui set her sights on Canada. Wambui’s final days were marked by hardship. Upon arrival in Toronto on Valentine’s Day, she sought shelter at the Mississauga shelter. Tragically, she was forced to endure the harsh Canadian winter for several hours before being allowed entry. This exposure ultimately led to her collapse and subsequent hospitalization.

Despite medical intervention, Wambui passed away on February 18. The news of Wambui’s death reached her family in Kenya through her sister, Apostle Wairimu Faith, who resides in the United States. Upon receiving the heartbreaking news, The family began the process of repatriating Wambui’s body, incurring Sh3 million in costs.

  2. The reason Why this Lady…
The reason Why this Lady died in the Cold is that:
*About 99% of KENYAns abroad (unlike NIGERIAns) are too “Individualistic and Users” than Helpers. *Shame Shame!! Shame!!!

  3. As sad as her death is…
As sad as her death is someone needs to be held accountable. How did she end up in a Canadian refugee center? Kenya and Canada are not next door, she got a visa to fly into somewhere then was advised to go to the Canadian border and file asylum. Whoever got her a visa sponsorship and gave her that advice has her death on their hands. Hint hint – she has a sister in the US.

  4. So very ?
    Indeed there…

    So very ?
Indeed there should be some accountability.

    Very disappointing
Pray her children will be taken care of
