The Co-operative Bank of Kenya has expanded its service offerings to cater to the growing needs of Kenyans residing and working abroad.
Through a collaborative effort known as Co-op Bancassurance, the bank is now offering a variety of insurance options designed specifically for this customer segment. This initiative highlights the bank’s commitment to providing comprehensive financial solutions since 2011, as explained by Mr. Joram Kiuna, Head of Bancassurance. He emphasizes the diverse range of products offered, covering individual needs such as personal accident and medical coverage, as well as property protection through car and home insurance.
Recognizing the unique requirements of small and medium-sized businesses, Co-op Bancassurance extends its solutions to SMEs. Mr. Kiuna details their offerings, including fire insurance, employee fidelity guarantees, and workman’s compensation, ensuring business continuity amidst unforeseen circumstances. Additionally, insurance products catered towards corporate entities are available, encompassing all insurable risks.
Mr. Kiuna identifies “Diaspora Kenyans” as a key customer segment. He acknowledges their specific needs, including medical insurance for their families back home and landlord insurance for their property investments. Co-op Bancassurance goes beyond insurance, offering investment options and life insurance for families. Mr. Kiuna highlights the positive impact these solutions have had on customers, enabling them to invest with greater confidence and ensuring the well-being of their loved ones.
This increased confidence translates to greater productivity and, ultimately, contributes to increased financial inflows into the Kenyan economy. With a comprehensive suite of solutions, the Co-operative Bank of Kenya invites Kenyans abroad to collaborate with them, promising a secure and financially sound future for themselves and their families.
I am extremely disappointed…
I am extremely disappointed with the bank’s attempt to offer health insurance for the diaspora. While this is a commendable effort, it is clear that the bank has failed to prioritize and meet the core banking needs of Kenyans in the diaspora. The lack of efficient and reliable banking services has greatly impacted my ability to manage my finances and conduct transactions seamlessly. I expected better from a reputable bank and I feel let down by the subpar services provided.

Its very interesting seeing this bank trying to focus on diaspora to milk our $$,
My experience with this bank as a diaspora member is one i hope no one ever experiences it. I was in constant communication with one Mugambi Nkatha, who kept on taking me in circles and never helped resolve my issue.
I also had a tough time to close my account, they still want to deduct me while closing. I can not advocate for this company, not alone buy insurance with them. do your banking job and let insurance companies sell insurance.

The crooks back home do not know what the hell they are doing. I would not deal with a bank in Kenya! Anyrthing they offer is a scam.
