Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts, Ababu Namwamba embarked on a special journey to Los Angeles, California, on February 4th.

The purpose of his trip was to attend the distinguished 66th Grammy Awards. During his time in Los Angeles, Ababu had the pleasure of meeting with content creator Elsa Majimbo at the Kenya Consulate. As a token of appreciation, he presented her with a gift hamper adorned with the label “Talanta Hela.” Elsa’s joy was evident as she received each gift individually. Among the items were a pack of tea bags, coffee, and a Maasai shuka, which she draped over her shoulders, acknowledging their practicality in the chilly weather. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as Ababu and Elsa posed for photographs, proudly displaying the Kenyan flags at the consulate.

Following this, Ababu and Ambassador Big Ted engaged in discussions about potential collaborations to promote the Talanta Hela initiative. During his visit, Ababu also met with representatives from the 1500 Sound Academy, aiming to find ways to boost the global presence of Kenyan content and enhance the impact of the initiative. This interaction in Los Angeles is just one facet of Ababu Namwamba’s broader endeavours to showcase Kenyan talent on the international stage. At a cultural event in Kisumu on June 23, 2023, he announced the commencement of negotiations with the American Grammys to provide support for local talent.

In 2023, Ababu Namwamba announced that Kenya had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Grammys to improve the country’s music industry. This important achievement followed another significant agreement made just a few days earlier with Hollywood’s Inventions Studios, which aimed to strengthen the Kenyan film industry. Ababu Namwamba’s proactive approach highlights the government’s dedication to nurturing and promoting Kenya’s vibrant artistic heritage on a global scale.
