Woman Traveling from Kenya Arrested at Minnesota Airport With Giraffe Poop

On September 29, 2023, a woman travelling from Kenya to the United States was apprehended for possessing giraffe faeces.

At Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) experts in agriculture came upon giraffe faeces in a tiny box held by a female passenger arriving from Kenya. She declared owning the droppings with plans to construct a necklace containing them, further disclosing her past uses of moose droppings in her home in Iowa.

The box was promptly confiscated by an agriculture specialist, and in accordance with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) destruction protocol, the faeces were destroyed using steam sterilization. CBP Director LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke of the Field Operations-Chicago Field Office emphasized the risk associated with bringing faecal matter into the US. Had this individual not declared the items, it would have posed a significant threat to public health, as there is a high likelihood of contracting diseases from such jewellery, resulting in severe health complications.

Meanwhile, in Nairobi’s Nyayo House, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation’s Transnational Organized Crime detectives have apprehended 15 individuals believed to be involved in a scandal related to corruption in passport issuance. This action was prompted by public outcry and the subsequent directive from the Interior CS Kithure Kindiki. The operation, which began on October 2, 2023, targeted six immigration service departments, resulting in the arrest of staff members, an intern, and nine suspected brokers. While some suspects managed to evade capture and are currently in hiding, authorities are actively pursuing them.
