Police Arrest Suspect in Murder of US-Based Nyamira Couple

Police on Friday nabbed a suspect in the murder of a US-based Nyamira couple at their Nyamakoroto residence in March 3023.

Denis Ondara, 41, was captured at the Isebania border, Migori County, possessing a Ceska pistol loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition. The hunt for the suspect has ended following a four-day police chase. Police from the Homicide department arrested the suspect before he crossed the border to dodge justice.  

In a statement, the Director of Criminal Investigation Mohamed Amin said they recovered a range of tools including nuts, screwdrivers, spanners and pliers that he used to break into parked vehicles. The directorate believes that Mr Ondara is the dangerous guest that the US-based couple, Edward Nyagechi Morema,62, and his wife Grace Mong’ina,58 hosted on that fateful night.

Mr Amin said the pursuit wouldn’t have been possible without the input of the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, and the Cyber Forensics team from the DCI National Forensic Laboratory. He said the police will soon reveal the motive of the murder.

The couple lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the US. According to reports from Gesima Police Station, their househelp Silvia Barongo, 19, and the farmhand Jeremiah Bosire, 30, raised the alarm after they became suspicious following the couple’s failure to show up for breakfast by 10 am. An Autopsy by the government pathologist reveals that the 2 succumbed to strangulation and blunt object injuries on their heads. 

The suspect is also linked to reported robbery with murder incidents in the Nairobi, Kisii and Migori counties.
