Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua has revealed plans by the government to establish a diaspora department in all Kenyan missions abroad.
Speaking during the 9th Kenya Diaspora Homecoming Convention at Ole Sereni hotel, Nairobi, Mutua said the ministry will set up communication channels with Kenyans living and working abroad in order to develop policies that will boost remittances and open up investment opportunities for them.
“We want to ensure that Kenyans and foreigners seeking information on investment in Kenya can easily get it from all our missions abroad,” Mutua said.
“We assure you there is a structured engagement with the new administration, you are in good hands with the Kenya Kwanza Government. President William Ruto is fully committed to tap into the potentiality of the Kenyan diaspora because this was one of his pledges,” he added.
The cabinet secretary said the reorganization of the ministry to include the diaspora and its affairs is a testament to the growing importance and role of the diaspora in enhancing the country’s development.
“Kenya’s development blueprint, which is the Vision 2030 acknowledges the role of those in the diaspora for their contribution towards the country,” stated Mutua.
Mutua said the Kenya Kwanza administration has made increasing diaspora remittances by twofold a priority in order to guide the economy.
On her part, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Diaspora Affairs Roselyne Njogu said the ministry will develop policies for engaging the diaspora community.
“We are going to encourage dialogue with all diaspora associations to enable us to formulate policies that will improve welfare of those abroad and in the country,” said Njogu.
United States Ambassador to Kenya Margret Whitman acknowledged the contribution of Kenyan workers in America to the richness and fabric of her country, adding that Kenyans in the diaspora need to gain expertise and come back home to contribute to their country as well.
“I am very grateful to the Kenyan diaspora for their contribution to the nation of immigrants and many of you are entrepreneurs in the cities, senior executives, doctors and lawyers in many of the best big American companies,” said Whitman.
Leave Kenyans in Diaspora…
Leave Kenyans in Diaspora alone.
Oh my, oh my! Is this Mkamba…
Oh my, oh my! Is this Mkamba allowing foreigners the ability to own LAND among other property in Kenya? These were his own words, “We want to ensure that Kenyans and foreigners seeking information on investment in Kenya can easily get it from all our missions abroad,” Mutua said.
**Am assuming by saying investments he’s referring to real estate, which I hope am wrong bc this is a disastrous move!
You tell me… can any Kenyan or any other foreigner simply just outrightly purchase such in America? Or do you know of any nation that allows foreigners to simply do the same? Isn’t citizenship a requirement?
