Raila, Karua Assure Kenyans in Diaspora of Their Commitment to Fight Corruption

Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua have assured Kenyans in the diaspora that they will tame corruption if they ascend to power.

Speaking during a virtual diaspora rally on Sunday, the two said the Azimio administration would push for legal amendments to expedite corruption cases.

“We need cases decided in real-time and culprits sent to jail and the innocent returning to work. We will do certain necessary interventions to aid us in the war against corruption. If need be, we will have legal amendments to ensure there is a speedy trials Act so that we stop the circus of corruption cases staying in our courts years upon years,” Karua said.

Karua pointed out that their government would work closely with investigative agencies and the criminal justice system in order to have consistency in the war on graft, even as she urged Kenyans to support the graft purge.

The Nark-Kenya party leader cited a similar campaign at the beginning of the Mwai Kibaki administration in 2002 where citizens joined hands with the government.

“In 2002, the fight by the Narc government was aided by the public. You recall police officers being forced to return bribes by the public and the public choosing to walk rather than let matatus disobey Michuki rules. KICC was recovered by the public and returned to the government,” she added.

Karua, who was responding to concerns raised by Kenyans in the diaspora who termed corruption as a major obstacle to the country’s development, affirmed that Odinga and herself will lead the way.

“Public confidence is brought by the utterances and body language of those in power. I want to commit that my principal and I are committed to the fight against corruption and we will demonstrate that commitment to inspire the public to rise up and support this fight,” she said.

During the rally, Kenyans in the diaspora also appealed for appointments to government positions. In response, Odinga pledged that the Azimio government would ensure that a majority of people appointed to ambassadorial positions are career diplomats.

He admitted that diplomatic appointments have become too politicized as nearly 50 percent of those picked to represent Kenya abroad are non-professionals or political appointees.

“We are going to strike a balance to allow for a certain percentage of our diplomats to be from outside the civil service but the bulk of them to be career diplomats who are people who have trained in that line of diplomacy,” Odinga said.

    • Raila has never been accused…
Raila has never been accused or investigated for corruption neither has he been accused of murder, forceful evictions of people nor shutting down peoples companies. If you have credible sources of facts to support your allegations please provide otherwise your comment is hogwash.

  2. Raila become an MP for…
Raila become an MP for Langata 30years ago. Although he was fighting Moi for his dictatorship; like the 1982 coup attempt that killed thousands of Kenyans, yet after 1997 general elections, he went to bed with the same dictator Moi- the mergre of NDP and KANU. He became MOI’s minister for energy- the same dictator Moi- and KANU’s General Secretay! Who is fooling who?. He had Gikuyus killed into thousands, others became IDPs and yet others burnt alive in a house of GOD so Raila can become Prime Minister and mkate nusu. Cabinet positions were doubled during Kibaki’s second term, at tax payers’ expense so that Raila can have his parallel government- two centers of power! As Raila put it very eloquentrly, “IT IS OUR TIME TO EAT”! This man holds his own separate Kenyan holidays, just provoke the president. He swears himself in as President- holding a Holy Bible- lying to God and Kenyans. Telling his people to remove Uhuru’s portrait in businesses and threatened to start collecting taxes in Nyanza. He left Kalonza, MDVD, Weta hanging out to dry like fools, took his daughter for handshake with Uhuru for his second mkate nusu. Newspapers; The Herald call him, “RAILA, A MERCHANT OF VIOLENCE”, The Herald; Apr 27,2021. Corrupt peole cannot end corruption! Raila is a multi-billionare yet has nerver held a job anywhere but politician. Raila is our violent dirty past and we refuse go back there.

    • Ruto has been the true…
Ruto has been the true prince of tribal violence!
In 1992 during the first multiparty election, he was in charge of Youth for Kanu 92 which was intimidating Kikuyu and Luyha citizens in Rift Valley!
In 1997, he was still in charge of Y2K92 which was involved in instigating violence in Burnt Forest, Eldoret, Molo, Njoro and Timboroa, among other locales!
In 2002, and in 2007, he joined forces with others to advocate for removing “madoadoa” from the Rift Valley! Meaning removal of Kikuyus, Luos, Luyhas, Etc! The culmination of which was the burning alive of women and children in a church in Eldoret village of Kiambaa killing more than 40!
Go vote for your saint Ruto my friend

    • Wawororo, you couldn’t have…
Wawororo, you couldn’t have said any better. This is what I have been saying about Raila. His selfishness. He does not care about anyone but himself. He hides in the field of fighting for the common man but not. He now wants to reverse what he says he fought for simply because it’s not working for him as he expected. He is always changing the constitution to suit what benefits him. He uses people then dumps them when his needs are accomplished. If he is for transformation at least we should have seen bits of it especially from his home turf or where he represented. He has so much money but so mean to help or give it back to the community. And as we know the riches game from the proceeds of the taxpayers.

Fighting corruption can only succeed if started from the TOP,I.e,current/past president downwards but not from police constable.Raila must be probed the amount he paid prosecutors Wako and Tobiko to escape prosecution after killing 1300 people in 07/08 PEV.He should also face the law for thousands of deaths coursed poisonous maize he and Kibaki imported from SA and thousands of Mountainians he has killed through the sale of methanol. Then all land grabbed by expired wauaji Kamau,Toroitch,Mwai must be forcefully seized. All past/present MPs including Rigathi,Wangari,Uhuru,Raila,Ruto etc must face the law increasing their salaries which is abuse of office offense.Punishment-FIRING SQUAD,a.ka,RISASI TU.

A good start is to disclose the amount of money in each of Fidel’s eight bank accounts.

    • Why would he do that? Fidel…
Why would he do that? Fidel was not a public official. Think a little bit doesn’t hurt.
