Kenya Native Becomes a US Army Reserve Medic

Joshua Omwenga, a Kenyan-born healthcare provider has become a US Army reserve medic.

Spc. Omwenga, who was born and raised in Western Kenya, is serving as a combat medic with the 444th Minimal Care Detachment of the US military.

The specialist worked as a teacher in Kenya before moving to the US after winning the green card Diversity Visa lottery, according to the US Army official website.

Thanks to his background in biology, Omwenga worked as a lab technician when he arrived in the US and was interested in pursuing the medical field and decided to join the US Army Reserve.

After arrival in the US, it took Omwenga four months to enlist to become a healthcare specialist.

“His time in the Army has given him and his family a broader perception of the military and what it means to serve. He has taken the opportunity to expand his skills and share experiences that he would not have been able to do outside the service,” the US Army Reserve Official Website says.

“Being a healthcare provider has provided a means to help others both in his new home and abroad.”

Omwenga is currently providing medical support for Exercise Justified Accord 2022 in Isiolo, Kenya. The international training event began on February 28th and focuses on building relationships between partner nations while also honing participants’ skills.

US service members from active and reserve components were among about 800 representatives who took part in the exercise.

“Over time, there are things you find yourself wishing you could do. I was wishing that someday I would contribute to the stability and security in this region and I’m here today. At least I can say I made my mark here and can move on to the next thing,” said Omwenga.

Why would you tell others to research while you are the one preaching falsehood. Is it that you are jealous of Omwenga and now you want to insult others because of your empty brainless head? Stop the nonsense and go find something to do. You must be a very stupid idiot!

@conish – a fake name indeed since you are ashamed of yourself and what you have so far accomplished in your dirty life.

You are probably a drunkard who is too old to serve with the best in the US Armed forces. @Conish, just look at yourself in the mirror near you and look inside your filthy brains full of jealousy of others who are working hard to accomplish something in a foreign country.

Wivu ni yanini wewe Shetani? Let SPC Omwenga and every body else be as they try to fulfill their dreams. Life is hard enough as one tries to make ends meet in the US.

We all know that life can be quite difficult in a foreign country, and so you should give credit to those who dare to dream and try to do something good.

      Comrade Conish,
      Someone has to start somewhere.
There are a lot of Kenyans in Diaspora that started “CNA wa kuclean na rears za tucucu!..” but now they own their own businesses and are doing pretty good financially.
The issue I have with us KENYANS is we’re mostly trying to tear each other down; instead of supporting each other. We are always quick to judge, but this is his journey. Please don’t be surprised years from now, he will be in the news again, being an EMPLOYER.

  3. I know that feeling when you…
I know that feeling when you are a US Army soldier and find yourself deployed to your homeland. When other soldiers asked me how i felt, my answer was always that my head is in America but my heart is in Kenya.

    • It’s the beauty of the US…
It’s the beauty of the US Army that you can be deployed anywhere in the world to serve your country. You get a chance to travel and see the world. Those talking negative here do not know anything.

Would encourage anyone to join the US military to get a life’s foundation while doing great things.

Those who are negatively commenting here and have never served in any branch of the military, really, what a shame! You can’t talk about an experience that you never had. So shut up!

  4. In America anyone can become…
In America anyone can become a “somebody” but first have to be a nobody. Problem is, some think they’re somebody when in reality we’re a nobody.

      • And you are still running…
And you are still running your empty t brains here after attacking Omwenga for doing something positive? What have you done lately to better your life?

@A Girl ToTO what a stupid response. The so called Doctors chose that path.SPC Omwega chose to be a medic.Shida iko wapi? Why do you think Docors are superior than anybody else? Shenzi wewe.

  6. @Omwenga – you have made the…
@Omwenga – you have made the right decision to join the US Reserves as a MEDIC. Those insulting you here are just jealous of your achievement, and for your audacity to dream big. Keep moving on and do not look back….

A friend of mine enlisted in the US Army and later on converted into a branch officer. Now, now he just retired as a ranking US Army Officer with lifetime benefits and a very admirable salary package. He has done great things in America and in Kenya. He traveled the whole world as an officer.

In those days, we stupidly laughed at him because we were very ignorant and naive, but he is now laughing back at us as we continue to hassle with life. He now does not have to work although he now works for the VA after retirement with a six figure salary.

One thing I dislike about Kenyans in the diaspora is the myopic view of the avenues of life each one of takes toward success. Most Kenyans are know it all and they can discourage you if you have a weak and faint heart.

I was shocked by @conish’s comments above and I can tell him/her to worry about his own life and leave others to do what it takes to keep life going. Why would a Kenyan be so jealous of his Kenyan brother who is working hard and not stealing from any body?

Surely God help our sick minds to get better in dealing with others.

    • @Mathenge, I don’t believe…
@Mathenge, I don’t believe it’s all diasporans, just those who hold on to the notion of an acceptable job (read white collar) that they picked up in Kenya. That is why there is madharau for CNAs, truck drivers, construction workers etc. and all occupations Kenyans have been brought up to think are beneath them. It’s also the same reason you read about Kenyans in Kenya remaining jobless years after graduating. I seldom a agree with the dearly deported Mkenya Halisi mainly because he doesn’t ever aim his wisdom at the 254 where it would do the most good, but his advice on mburoti and farming and rental properties isn’t bad. I know and have known Kenyans here doing delivery, limo, trucking, cna, etc. Their money is as green as any IT worker, laywer, banker or white collar worker.

Omwenga was awarded the specialist rank because he came in with an education. Had he been a US citizen, he would have joined as a lieutenant. He is on the right course and he seems determined to do what it takes to succeed.

To all those who have negativity toward Omwenga, shame on you.

    Congratulations SPC Omwenga!
