Kenyans in Diaspora Weigh in on Miguna Miguna’s Woes

A group of Kenyans in the diaspora has protested the decision by the government to block deported lawyer Miguna Miguna’s return to Kenya.

Diaspora for Change, a pressure group based in the United Kingdom, took issue with the government’s continued disregard of court orders that directed it to facilitate Miguna’s return to the country.

In a statement on Thursday, the group decried what it termed as an increasing trend by the political class to undermine the independence of the Judiciary by disobeying court orders and refusing to comply with the rule of law.

“We are gravely concerned by the decision of the Jubilee government in Nairobi to resort to illegally continuing with its policy of forced exile of its critic, human rights and civil society leader Miguna Miguna.”

“Despite several court orders requiring the government to allow, facilitate and not to interfere with the return of Miguna Miguna … the leadership has refused to comply and continues to flagrantly disobey these court orders,” a statement signed by Hezekiah Owili, Aggrey Kikaya and Sebastian Onyango on behalf of Diaspora for Change, read in part.

They demanded that Miguna, who is presently stranded in Germany, is granted an unconditional entry into the country as directed by the court.

“It implies that the law in Kenya can be applied selectively at the whim of the political class. This should worry not only Miguna but all Kenyans from all walks of life, especially those in the diaspora who hold dual citizenship …We demand that Mr. Miguna Miguna is allowed free and unconditional return to his homeland.”

Miguna was on Tuesday blocked by two airlines from flying to Kenya over a red alert allegedly issued by the government of Kenya. On Wednesday, the government shifted the blame on Miguna, saying he had been listed as an “unruly passenger” after he caused drama at JKIA during his deportation in March 2018.

“Dr. Miguna was categorized as an unruly passenger in line with Annex 17 of ICAO standards and recommended practices that allow prohibition of unruly passengers,” said government spokesperson Col. Cyrus Oguna.

  1. There is obviously so much…
There is obviously so much information, some seemingly true others true that are arising from Miguna*2’s debacle. This is confusing to so many abound. First, we’re told that he is categorized as an unruly passenger, which of course we’re told was ignited by Miguna’s behavior at the JKIA. And that worked to prevent him from boarding a Kenyan bound plane from Frankfurt. Question; how did he leave Canada, only to be stopped in Germany? That does not add up, although it is understandable airlines have different requirements.
But also another piece of information which his former buddy, Raila Amolo Odinga mentioned in one of his recent rant on the issue is Miguna’s deviance to carry with him necessary travel documents. If it is true that he is traveling on an expired passport, why should he receive preferential treatment? He is not a special citizen. Or is he? All he had to do, like RAO said, is go to a Kenyan embassy, and renew his passport before traveling, just like all of us do. If the latter holds, then the government has not denied him anything, neither has it disobeyed court orders! Period.

1.Miguna was removed from his house by the Kenyan government. He was put on the plane by force.

      Start there.

Then you will see everything the Kenyan government is saying is just lies and foolish games.

      FYI::

Miguna is just exposing what they have been doing to Kenyans. This has been happening to Kenyans.

      • There are other Kenyans who…
There are other Kenyans who renounced their Kenyan Citizenship before the 2010 Constitution was passed. They have to follow the rules spelled out in same Constitution, to regain their Citizenship, and be issued with a Kenyan passport. Why is Miguna Miguna so special, that he should not follow the same rules? Ps, he was removed from Kenya because he was in Kenya illegally, and the documents that he had were acquired illegally. He can play games with Kenyans, but he will only burn himself, when he takes those games outside Kenya, as he is doing now.

        • I have been wondering why no…
I have been wondering why no one, even the immigration in Kenya, is restating the genesis of Miguna’s problems as were. He needs to reapply for citizenship he had denounced before dual-citizenship was possible….or else, what other Kenyans were made to go thro” and are still being asked to do is profiling of sorts.

  2. The Kenyan government has…
The Kenyan government has been doing to Kenyans what they are doing to Miguna.

They have a list of Kenyans they are planning to kill.

That’s what people need to understand. This is not brand new behavior by the Kenyan government, wamezoea. It’s a habit.

    • @guest – the government role…
@guest – the government role is to protect all its law abiding people.

The judge who is saying muguna’s return to Kenya need to be facilitated by the government is wrong. Miguna should should make all his return arrangement without costing tax payers.

He should have made sure his travel was smooth before he left Canada. Miguna is not a special traveler. Many have traveled that flight before without and issues. I have no sympathy for Miguna.

1.why do you bother reading and commenting on articles related to him?

        2. How is the judge wrong and you ,who clearly is just commenting because you don’t care ,is right?

  3. Guest, the man is a…
Guest, the man is a narcissist. There are no laws stopping him from following the constitutional requirements. Why do you think he is special? Well, ok, he might be special but I’m not a doctor so I leave that to professionals to diagnose.

  4. @clueless-diaspora! Who…
@clueless-diaspora! Who travels across the world without the proper documents? Did you get to your destinations without the required paperwork?

Can you travel to Kenya without the relevant documents and expect to gain entry in Kenya or any other country across the globe?

Most of these Diaspora for Change thugs live in Camden, London where they sell all sorts of drugs in a run down place where murder of innocent folks happen on a broad day light! It is the Mathare of London. Pretty soon you will be expecting them to hold meetings in five star hotel in Nairobi under the pretext serving the diaspora community.

These diasporas are making a mockery of themselves supporting a rogue goon. Those you left back home now think you are just a group of drunken stupors wishing to make a name for yourselves.

Change begins with oneself if you wish to bring change to others. Stop lying to those you left back in Kenya that you are as acting for change in Kenya or helping those in the Diaspora get the non-existent high flying jobs in Kanya.

If you cannot make it abroad where you are, definitely you will not make it if you return to Kenya! Let truth be told!

  5. Why can’t Miguna apply for a…
Why can’t Miguna apply for a visa upon arrival in Nairobi using his Canadian passport?
That way he can toe the line in Nyayo house for the application to regain his Kenyan citizenship while attending court proceedings. Obviously he is using and presenting his Canadian Passport to the airlines otherwise thy would never have allowed him to board the flight right from the start.

    • Because their is a court…
Because their is a court order directing the Kenyan government to give him his Kenyan passport back.

      That’s why.
