A Kenyan woman who has been detained by Saudi Arabian authorities for the past one year is appealing for help to return home.
Elizabeth Sineno from Watamu in Mombasa County released recordings calling out for help.
Sineno said she traveled to the Middle East country in 2014 in search of employment to feed her family back home and save them from poverty.
Trouble began after her first employer sold her off to another woman after working for her for three years. Ms. Sineno said she worked for the new employer for four years, though on and off.
On June 16th, 2018, Sineno said the woman and her son drove her off to a city called Tabuk in the northwest before abandoning her.
“The son who was on the wheel faked a puncture and asked everyone to disembark the vehicle. He then threw my bags outside before he and his mother drove away leaving me behind,” narrated Sineno.
She was picked by police officers who booked her to a police station in the city of Aljouf Sakaka before she was transferred to the labor offices, where other women, including Kenyans, were being detained.
“Since then we have been held hostage at the labor offices for the last one year without proper accommodation or medication,” she said.
“We have been trying to reach the Kenyan embassy for assistance to no avail and we request Kenyans of good will to help us get back home.”
Speaking to the Daily Nation, Noni Mbuggus, a community worker in Watamu, said Sineno’s family are financially unstable and cannot afford to bring her back.
“I know Ms. Sineno’s parents cannot raise money for her air ticket back to Kenya and that’s why she has resorted to making an appeal to well-wishers,” said Mbuggus.
Mbarrak Randu, a Kenyan man who lives in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia said he visited Ms. Sineno at the labor offices after a request by her family.
“I went to check on the women and confirmed that they are in good health. What they only want is to get back home,” Randu told the Daily Nation.

You can help, but this is one of those stories that does not add up. She went there in 2014, 3 years with one employer, 4 years with another, that makes it 2021, we are in 2019. The Saudi Arabians are not the best people in the world, but they are not the worst, one-way ticket to NBO is no big deal. Its cheaper than that fake Tabuk trip. The reporter was able to reach everyone that is involved in this scandal, except for the family. I’m sure they want us to belief that contacting the family would have been extremely difficult.
