Police in California are still investigating the circumstances under which a Stanford University student originally from Kenya died in her dormitory room.
24-year-old Norah Chelagat Borus was found dead at her on-campus room on Friday.
Family spokesperson Joseph Maswan said police are still investigating the matter and that the body was yet to be released to them. He said the family is yet to receive any information on what could have caused her death.
Norah, who was the best performing student in the 2013 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations in Nairobi County and fourth nationally, was studying Computer Science at a Stanford.
“The cause of death will be determined by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner,” Stanford University said in a statement on Monday.
The deceased is the last-born child of Prof. Peter Borus and his wife, Dr. Diana Borus of Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture.
Maswan said Prof. Borus and his eldest daughter are already in the US to follow up with the matter.
RIP. Our leaders need to…
RIP. Our leaders need to invest in local institutions so our citizens are not desperately looking for opportunities away from home. If what we invest in all these foreign nations in way of travel, education, survival was invested at home we would not be a third world country. After all that work of educating our kids, we export them to be used by foreign nations. As the west prepares to depot them, the government must have plans in place to accommodate them.
It is time for our government to give Kenyan’s abroad incentives to return home and build our country.
We have good human resources, if only our leaders are willing to put politics aside and put real work in building our country instead of doing cosmetic work that will soon need bandage to sustain. (Work done by foreigners who do it in self-interest)
Kenya has a young and energetic population, but our leaders are stuck in their old corrupt ways.
May this student and all others who are dying abroad, or ending up in foreign detention centers be a wake up call to Kenya and its leaders.
In the US we have What is…
