MP Pushes for Parliamentary Representation for Kenyans in the Diaspora

Kenyans in diaspora could soon have a representative in Parliament if MPs pass a new Bill to be tabled before the House.

The Bill, being prepared by Ndia MP George Kariuki seeks to introduce amendments to Article 97(1) of the Constitution.

Kariuki wants Kenyans abroad be listed as a special interest group and have a nomination slot set aside for them like it is for youth, women and people living with disabilities.

“The objective of his Bill is to amend the Constitution to expressly include Kenyans in the diaspora as a special interest group qualifying for nomination to the National Assembly under Article 97(1) of the Constitution,” he states in a letter to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

“Enactment of the Bill will allow representation of the group which currently contributes greatly to the economy of the country but is marginalized in terms of representation.”

Remittances by Kenyans in diaspora overtook tea, coffee and tourism to become Kenya’s highest foreign exchange earner.

This does don’t make any sense, first we are scattered across the globe not sure how one that hold the office will be able to represent. And are we not paying our ambassadors to represent us? How many Americans have invested around the world and pay taxes to back home and they don’t call for these nonsense? Wakenya send money and help where you can, there are better things we should be advocating for than mpigs posts.

When did hungry Ndians send idler Kariuki to demand that useless seat? How are Ndians or me going to gain from it?My stand remains-overhaul of the so-called constitution to cut the useless govt by 3/4 starting with scrapping of Senate and reducing the number of MPs to 100 t h e same number of constituencies with some counties whose population of 1m+ like Kiambu,Kakamega,Nakuru,Mombasa-3MPs each and Nairobi 4.The number of govts(counties) need to be reduced to five and ministries to 70 only from current 47 and 600+ respectively.Katiba should be written or drafted for future Kenyans but not hii UPUUZI wa kuandikia MAVI ya kuwufurahiza muuji Raila na jambazi Uhuru kuwalipa shs 1.5b for for ownining mavi political parties.
