Kenyans in living in the diaspora have called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to end the stalemate surrounding the repeat presidential election, by engaging both Jubilee and opposition National Super Alliance in a dialogue.
Kenya Diaspora Alliance Chairman, former Rangwe MP Shem Ochuodho said that Kenyans living abroad were concerned with the current situation in the country and hence the need to end it.
Ochuodho also expressed concerns that the could put in jeopardy the repeat poll scheduled for October 26th.
NASA has set a number of demands for their candidate Raila Odinga to contest against Uhuru Kenyatta (Jubilee Party).
The Opposition has demanded for the reconstitution of IEBC secretariat by firing CEO Ezra Chiloba and 11 other officials, while President Uhuru’s Jubilee had proposed amendments on electoral laws.
Ochuodho also noted the uncertainty is impacting negatively on the economy, which is hurting businessmen.
“Trade cannot go on smoothly in a country whose business trends cannot be understood especially because of political uncertainty.”
“It’ s only they who can save the country. We appeal to both parties to put Kenya’s interests ahead of everything.”
“The hard line stances are detrimental to the election environment and the country’s unity,” he added, and urged IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati to meet Uhuru and Raila.
“Politicians should know the deadlock they have subjected the county to is economically dangerous.”
