Sarah Wanjiru, one of the widows of the late Equity Bank CEO John Mwangi Kagema has filed an application seeking to have his body exhumed for a DNA test to be carried out over property dispute.
In documents filed in court, Ms. Wanjiru argues that unnecessary court cases will be avoided if a suitable DNA test is conducted on the children of the deceased.
“DNA test be conducted on any other persons alleging to be a biological child of the deceased so as to avoid unnecessary lengthy litigation so as to determine paternity,” reads court papers.
She accuses her co-wife Beatrice Wanjiku Mwangi and her two sons of excluding her in the properties and failing to disclose the extent of the estate left behind by the tycoon.
Wanjiru further notes that Beatrice’s marriage is disputed in light of the information that was shared with her by the late Mwangi.
She claims that upon the passing of their husband, her co-wife for no good reasons kept her away from all the burial arrangements, thus causing her psychological torture, stress, and mental anguish.
In a replying affidavit, Beatrice Wanjiku says she is the legal wife of Mwangi and therefore, the deceased had no capacity to marry another woman since he married in a monogamous union. She dismisses the claim of a third woman, Esther Njeri that she was also a wife to the deceased.
The case will be heard on November 23rd, 2019.
Mwangi, a renowned entrepreneur and owner of Enashipai Spa & Resort in Naivasha, passed away in December last year. He was one of the wealthiest Kenyans with interests in various sectors — including banking and hospitality — running into billions of shillings
In February this year, Beatrice Wanjiku and two of her four children – James Kagema and Daniel Wamahihu – filed a succession case at the High Court in Nairobi to begin the process of being administrators of his estate.

Ladies, a DNA sample can be obtained from his other children, or his surviving siblings. It is not necessary to disturb the Mzee. Let him rest in peace.
That calls for another DNA…
That calls for another DNA. For men, you are never sure that you are the biological father.

The Court ordered a DNA test…
The Court ordered a DNA test to be performed on the twins allegedly sired by the late Fidel Odinga, to ascertain the truth. Nowhere is it indicated that his grave would be desecrated, because scientifically, it is not necessary. The male genome in the deceased is the same one in his children, and siblings, because it is passed down. If it is identical in two people, say a sibling and a child, then there is no possibility that it is not the same as that of the deceased. It can then be checked against the male genome of the DNA of any other party to ascertain paternity.
Thanks to SCIENCE,we can now…
Thanks to SCIENCE,we can now 100% pinpoint who the father is as opposed to years ago when we took the woman’s word that”bruno” is the father. As women continue to have multiple partners,it is also getting had for the baby mama to tell for certain who the baby dady is.SCIENCE settles that.
I stand corrected, but I believe “before science” parternity issues never were a big deal.I child brought in the village was raised by the village regardless of who sired him or her.
In fact some tribes such as those in papua guinea went as far as believing that sexual intercourse had nothing to do with pregnancy.
Of course DNA does much more than tell us who the baby dady is,least of which is identifying genetic diseases that can be passed on to offsprings.Thank you SCIENCE.You have dispelled alot of superstitions, and explained the “inexplainable” when possible.Yes science cannot explain all the mysteries of the world “yet”,but its the best alternative to blind faith.I have seen in many partenity courts where a mother swears that 100% ‘kamau”is the father only to be shocked that “mathenge” is the baby dady.Yes faith is just that. It does not prove anything.
Importantly, to believe in science, you have to be open minded. You must be ready to challenge, shed off your long held beliefs ,and practises when proven wrong, and counter productive.
