Kenya Airways Begins Selling Advance Tickets for its Maiden Direct Flight to the US

Kenya Airways (KQ) will from Thursday start selling advance tickets for the airline’s inaugural direct flight to the United States.

KQ has confirmed that daily direct flights between Nairobi and New York will commence on October this year, effectively cutting the travel time between the two cities by more than seven hours.

Speaking on Tuesday, Kenya Airways Chairman Michael Joseph said travellers will from Thursday be allowed to book advance tickets for KQ maiden flight that will leave Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

Kenya Airways said trans-Atlantic flights departing Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 10:30pm every day, will last 15 hours, a reduction from the current flight time of over 22 hours.

“We are currently loading the flights onto our system. We shall go live and ready for bookings on Thursday,” said Kenya Airways chairman Michael Joseph.

“The launch of direct flights between Kenya and the United States will mark a significant milestone for the business and for the country.”

Passengers from Kenya will arrive at JFK airport at 6:30am, while the return flight from JKF will leave at 1:30pm and arrive in JKIA at 10:30am the next day.

Each trip will have a maximum of 234 passengers, 204 in Economy and the rest in Business Class of the Kenya Airways Dreamliner aircraft.

Mr Joseph said KQ has been granted with all, but two permits needed for it to operate to the US.

Good news but i absolutely do not like JFK aiport! Why not DC, ATL or Detroit?

  2. Lies!…
    Lies!
Anyone from NY,DC, ATL or any major east coast city will tell you quicker flights via Europe can take 16 hours. You only save 2 hours transit time. Most travelers are citizens/permanent residents so they can easily enter London bila visa.
KQ with its severe delays, bad customer service, lost luggage and deadly pilots is a nightmare. Are you willing to gamble that for $50 less?

I sense another Ghana airlines story where they got kicked out a decade ago from US skies.
Wananchi don’t buy tickets until you see a physical KQ plane here. They still have yet to get the all important AOC- Air Operataors Certificate. Bila that its just the same dreams we have been hearing for 10+ years

@Guest1, they think you do not know how to save your money. Why let them save my money for 10 month

  4. The last international KQ…
The last international KQ flight I took was 10 years ago from Amsterdam to Nairobi. One section of the plane had so many drunks, they started addressing flight attendants as “Kanini”…treating them like barmaids. In all fairness, I have seen Kenyans drinking lots on Emirates as well.

@Mkenya halisi. Why did you travel to Sodom and Gomorrah 2X last year as you call it. You were not afraid to be consumed by fire and brimstone.

  6. I guess KQ is there to serve…
I guess KQ is there to serve the desperate/matatu crowd who are new to travel. Notice its only those in Kenya eager to book these flights and first time traveler F1 students. Those who value their time know this 12 hour delay/lost luggage BS is no way to spend a 2 week trip off from work.
Time is money. Spend it wisely.
A lot of this hype is just PR from KQ personnel. In the end, it will be Delta planes doing the flying not even KQ. What a joke.
