McDonald's to Open it's First Restaurant in Nairobi

US giant fast food restaurant chain McDonald’s is set to enter the Kenyan market as it continues to extend its wings across the world.

The restaurant will be launching its first store in the country in the next six months through a franchize model. The restaurant will be located at the Total fuel station along Dennis Rd in Kilimani Estate, Nairobi.

The launch comes about three years since the fast-food chain invited investors to lodge applications for a Kenya franchise. In March, McDonald’s announced it would open 4,000 more restaurants across the world by the end of 2017.

Its entry into the Kenyan capital adds to the increasing number of international franchise setting stores in Kenya among them, Subway and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC).

McDonald’s is among the largest global restaurant chains, serving more than 69 million customers daily in over 100 countries.

  1. Oh no, McDonald’s in Kenya!…
Oh no, McDonald’s in Kenya! Subway, Kentucky Fried Chicken, etc. Can someone please tell me the economic advantages of these mega food chains to Kenya? It makes sense when we have to buy vehicles, machinaries and such like technology that we cannot produce locally. But We have become a consumer society; Gikomba used clothes come from abroad. The fine clothing of the rich and proud come from France, UK-they wear Italian leather shoes, the fine furniture and fine China is shipped from abroad-and we wonder about jobs for our youths! Our banks and insurance companies are foreign controlled- and now, we cannot make our own hamburger, fried chicken, fried rice, even coffee (boiled water with ground coffee beads) we run to a foreign owned coffee shop! Just remember that the consumers, the eaters are disposable,if push come to shove and there isn’t enough for all in the world, we (Africans), would be the first to be eliminated and your exotic wonderful global food chains that make you feel like europeans would be your poisoning centers. So have fan and follow blindly into your trap.

kweli kabisa bro. this is just ridiculous. we call this development.

  2. What is the advantage of…
What is the advantage of having McDonald’s in Kenya besides cancer and hypertension. This takes away opportunities from the small Kenyan investor. Surely Kenyans can make their own hamburgers. This is a sad day for Kenya. Uhuru and Ruto are selling us out to the highest bidder. Odinga would have sold us for 2 cents anyway. We need patriotic politicians in the government!

    • Mc D is going to Kenya…
Mc D is going to Kenya because it has a market there.Period.Jeff Koinange has plenty of experience in Mc D,and will be vary valuable when the first 10 open in Kenya.
All those former kenyan-americans residing in Kenya will be happy to revisit McDs…
As for local”macds”just compete. If you have a good product, itajiuza. And locals will support it.Key is that it has to be good. Not that Mc D is good,(or bad),but it has a market. Its called free market.

      • @Maxiley, A smart government…
@Maxiley, A smart government will always try to regulate free market to bring in a certain level of sanity and most countries in the first world do this. To build a strong nation you need healthy people not people constantly using all their wealth to pay for hospital bills. Read about the US and their health care spending then compare that with Europe. A big difference. Don’t be taken by free market.

  3. Why are you worried the…
Why are you worried the regular folk will not be able to afford .Only the rich then they can take themselves to Nairobi, Karen and Agakhan hospitals when they suffer from diabètes and obesity. There are too many rich people in Nairobi it is a good idea wapungue halafu the rest of us can get to afford to pay for parking as their big SUV`s will not be grabbing all the parking spots

    • McD is mainly for the poor. …
McD is mainly for the poor. Very few rich guys will go McDs everyday, everymeal. Watch and see what McDs has done to the blacks of America…….and the whitet**** Watch too when it comes to Kenya, the wannabes will be the culprits….. not the aware and ‘those who have been their”…if you know what I mean.

  4. Why don’t you complain about…
Why don’t you complain about licensed drug trade by kina Mwau,Kabogo,Sonko,Joho,Muthama,Murungaru,Wambui etc?

  5. Otieno et all, McD is…
Otieno et all, McD is actually late in catching up. Nando’s, KFC, Pizza… are already there. Chakula za ajabu ajabu zimevuma nyumbani! Middle class families flock to these joints…sad but happening. American style… and it didn’t go unnoticed that Uhuru is asking Kenyans to sign up to a health insurance… he knows what’s coming!

  6. Macdonalds is not for the…
Macdonalds is not for the poor as they will not be selling a burger for 10 shs just like KFC does not sell chicken for 20 shs. You obviously have no understanding of exchange rate.Try google to know the price before equating poor American blacks with Kenyans.

  7. McDonalds just like Kfc…
McDonalds just like Kfc sells cheap fast food that leaves you hungry. Exposing someone to diseases like hypertension, high-blood pressure, heart attack and has very little nutritional benefits.I will be glad if a health food store like amish or whole foods opened in Nairobi.
