Former Tharaka Nithi Woman Representative Beatrice Nkatha has passed away at St Theresa’s Mission Hospital Kiirua in Meru County, as confirmed by the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Sister Agnes Nkatha.
Nkatha, who represented Tharaka Nithi County for two terms from 2013 to 2022, had reportedly been battling illness for some time. Her untimely demise has elicited an outpouring of grief and tributes from both political leaders and the community she served. Governor Muthomi Njuki of Tharaka Nithi County has expressed his sorrow upon receiving the news. He praises her for serving with admirable grace and diligence, noting her impactful contributions, particularly in advancing women’s leadership.
Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara has also paid tribute to Nkatha, describing her as a gentle and distinguished leader who served the county with distinction. Murugara emphasizes her non-controversial nature and her amiable demeanour, stating that she would be deeply missed by all. Throughout her political career, Beatrice Nkatha was known for her dedication to public service and her commitment to improving the lives of her constituents.
Her focus on initiatives aimed at empowering women and promoting education and healthcare in Tharaka Nithi County earned her widespread respect and admiration. Beyond her political duties, Nkatha was actively involved in community development projects, working closely with local organizations to address pressing issues such as poverty, access to clean water, and economic empowerment. One of Nkatha’s most significant legacies was her role in promoting women’s leadership in Tharaka Nithi County.
As a strong advocate for gender equality, she worked tirelessly to ensure that women had a voice in decision-making processes. Her efforts led to increased representation of women in local government and other leadership positions. The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) has also expressed deep sorrow over Nkatha’s passing and lauded her impact through her role in the Public Investments Committee.
