Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has disputed the premature discussion of succession politics in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, which has prompted some politicians from his Central Kenya region to call for his removal in the 2027 election.
Mr Gachagua reaffirms his dedication to serving as President William Ruto’s deputy and stresses that he will refrain from participating in unnecessary conversations regarding succession. Recently, a few Kenya Kwanza MPs proposed that Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro might potentially take over Mr Gachagua’s position in the 2027 General Election, causing strain within the ruling UDA party. Nevertheless, Mr Gachagua has addressed his detractors by declaring that his focus lies in fulfilling his duties as the Deputy President and that he does not delve into unrelated matters.
The Deputy President voices his discontent with those engaged in the conversation about succession, as he feels they are displaying disrespect towards him and the President. Additionally, he refutes the proposition of meeting with Parliament members who oppose his leadership. These remarks were delivered while he was present at the funeral of Philip Tonui, the deceased father of Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei, in Kapsio village, Bomet County. Tragically, Mr Tonui passed away after fighting cancer for a week at Tenwek Hospital.
Mr. Gachagua emphasizes the importance of leaders prioritizing service provision and acknowledging the economic difficulties faced by Kenyans. He proclaims that he and President Dr. Ruto are knowledgeable about their background, current situation, and ongoing efforts. Mr Gachagua declares his commitment to supporting the President in achieving his goals for the benefit of the Kenyan people. Simultaneously, the Deputy President defends Cabinet Secretaries against criticism from Members of Parliament, highlighting that such attacks indirectly undermine the President’s authority in their appointment.
Present at the event were Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen, Florence Bore, and Davis Chirchir who expressed their support for Mr Gachagua and praised his unwavering loyalty to President Ruto. Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherarkey acknowledged and appreciated Mr Gachagua’s alliance with Dr Ruto, promising to stand by him in his political endeavours. The presence of Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot and various other leaders further added to the event.
While he is a very skilled…
While he is a very skilled debator, I swear I cannot imagine Gachagua inspecting a guard of honor as Kenya’s president.
” If you are silent in situations of injustice, you have taken the side of the oppressor.”
