Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has said that the results for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination will be available by the end of the week.
Next week, all 1.4 million candidates will have their results, signalling the start of the final push for Form One placements. Machogu confirmed yesterday that the marking of the 2023 KCPE exam is finished, signifying the conclusion of the fiercely competitive primary education exams under the 8-4-4 system. The results release will clear the path for the Form One placement procedure, set to take place before Christmas. Machogu stressed that the early release of the KCPE results will provide parents with sufficient time to get ready for January 2024 admissions.
The forthcoming KCPE examination marks the end of an era, as the 8-4-4 education system concludes. Consequently, primary schools will solely adopt the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). This change is in line with the 100% transition initiative initiated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2019 and continued by the present government to guarantee that all KCPE candidates progress to secondary school. Machogu noted that only six cases of malpractice were reported.
“With the number of candidates, we have this year, this means we are 99.9 per cent perfect in ensuring integrity in this year’s KCSE examination,” he said.
The Physics practicals will mark the end of the KCSE exams, which have seen a whopping 903,260 candidates participate. The marking process will begin immediately after the conclusion of the exams, as stated by the CS. Machogu assures that the new strategies put in place for this year’s exams have yielded positive results. The successful implementation of measures like double collection of exam papers has effectively tackled the challenge of premature access, which was previously the main obstacle in safeguarding the KCSE exams.
