Kanini Kega, Sabina Chege to Lose Seats in New Uhuru Jubilee Purge
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies are now considering removing Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege from their appointed positions.

Merely a day after Azimio triumphantly relieved Sabina Chege of her duties as deputy minority whip in the National Assembly, the Jubilee party’s contentious leadership is planning to revoke her nomination including her EALA counterpart Kanini Kega. The Jubilee NEC, which convened on Thursday, has directed the party’s parliamentary leadership to collaborate with their Azimio allies to oust members who are loyal to President William Ruto.

During the NEC meeting, which President Uhuru addressed via phone call, the Jubilee party emphasized the importance of having members who are dedicated to the party. Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni pointed out that the Kenya Kwanza government has provided employment opportunities to some of its members to undermine the party from within. The Kega-Chege faction has been attempting to seize control of the party from Uhuru’s allies since the fallout following the election defeat, but the court has suspended the takeover.

Kioni maintains that they are still aligned with Azimio, while the Kega faction wishes to distance themselves from the opposition coalition. Prominent figures within the Kega faction have pledged their loyalty to Kenya Kwanza, thus aiding the ruling coalition in achieving its legislative agenda. The party’s recent decision is anticipated to spark additional legal battles, exacerbating the existing internal conflicts. Sabina Chege had taken legal action to prevent the Azimio faction from removing her as the deputy minority whip.
