President William Ruto showcased himself as a leader for Africa and secured various deals for Kenya During the United Nations meeting.

Through his leadership, the country has received funding worth over $863 million from the Development Finance Corporation which supports healthcare systems, agribusiness logistics, and overall SME development. Furthermore, President Ruto has collaborated with the National Basketball Association to promote youth-centered community basketball development. He emphasized the importance of interconnectedness and cooperation as an international community in addressing climate change.

President Ruto has declared that Kenya plans to team up with Canada to create more trade and investment opportunities in various industries. In addition, the UNOPS African headquarters will be stationed in Nairobi. Kenya and Barbados also plan to collaborate on worldwide concerns such as environmental conservation, international financing, stable food supplies, advanced farming techniques, and clean energy. On top of that, President Ruto has committed to maintaining peaceful stability in the Horn of Africa with the support of Washington D.C. Lastly, he has urged the initiation of an innovative process in debt restructuring that aims to provide debt relief to countries before they become insolvent.

Speaking during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Ruto emphasized the importance of overhauling the “entitlement” allocation mechanism. Specifically, President Ruto highlighted the dangers of disregarding the values and principles outlined in the UN Charter. He noted that doing so has contributed to dire problems such as deadly disease outbreaks, humanitarian crises, poverty, and climate change.

He reiterated that Africa is not seeking handouts, but rather aims to work with the rest of the world to mobilize resources, confront insecurity, and resolve conflicts to provide security and prosperity for all. Dr Ruto criticized the international community for falling behind in meeting targets related to climate action and sustainable development goals, as well as peace and security.
