I Was Sidelined During Ruto’s Visit in Githunguri – Wamuchomba

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba now claims she is being sidelined by President William Ruto’s administration. 

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the lawmaker lamented the prevalence of male domination in Kenyan politics, highlighting that she was even denied the chance to take a photo with the President. The UDA MP further revealed that she was barred from attending a meeting when President William Ruto visited her constituency (Githunguri) over the weekend.

“The male shadow in politics in Kenya is growing thicker! I can’t breathe in my own constituency as elected Woman MP ……not even the Women Rep can appear in an official presidential visit,” Wamachomba said.

Despite her Kenya Kwanza colleagues backing the Finance Bill 2023 during its Second Reading, Wamuchomba was unwavering in her opposition and voted against it. The legislator criticized the Finance Bill 2023 as severe, unfair, and scandalous. She urged the Kenya Kwanza government to address the worries of the people in regard to the bill. In a veiled condemnation of her and other legislators who spoke out against the bill, President Ruto declared on Saturday, June 17, 2023, that legislators who do not stand by the Finance Bill are insincere.

“These citizens helped you get a job, but you do not want a cut of your salary to finance the Housing project. Let us stop petty politics from few who are against the move,” Ruto said. 

Meanwhile, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has continued to drum support for the proposed Finance Bill. During a talk in Roysambu on Tuesday, the ODM politician said the Bill will make lives better in the future. She stated that she will continue supporting the bill until it passes. Last week, Passaris voted for the Bill, going against her ODM outfit.
