Uhuru Awarded for His Role in Peaceful Settlement of Conflict in Ethiopia

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has been honored for his contribution to the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Northern Ethiopia.

Kenyatta was among the leaders who mediated the peace talks that led to the resolution of the two-year conflict between the Ethiopian government and the regional forces from Tigray.

He was feted during a ceremony themed “Enough with war lets sustain peace”, which was organized by the government of Ethiopia to take stock of lessons learned from the African Union-led peace process.

Speaking at the event held at Friendship Square in Addis Ababa on Sunday, Kenyatta hailed the people of Ethiopia for their commitment to finding lasting peace in the Northern region.

He described Ethiopia as the heart of Africa and a country of great potential, adding that it has shown the world how different nationalities and communities can live peacefully under one flag.

“The commitment shown and the leadership of the African Union has indeed proved that Africa can work out her problems, and what has happened in Ethiopia is a testimony that Africa can work out its problems,” said Kenyatta.

Kenyatta was awarded alongside former Nigeria president Olusegun Obasanjo and former South Africa deputy president Phumzile Mlambo- Ngcuka.

Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) interim President Getachew Reda also graced the occasion.
