Six Kenya Kwanza Political Parties Fold to Join President Ruto's UDA

Six political parties have resolved to fold and join the ruling party United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

UDA Secretary-General Cleophas Malalah said on Tuesday that the move is aimed at uniting the country and advancing its development.

“Our vision is to live and outlive the ambitions of our founders. This is the option our partners had and chose a strong, stable, national, majority, Conservative party that is focused on building the nation and generations to come than just winning an election,” Malalah said.

The six parties that have folded and joined the President Ruto-led party include Chama Cha Mashinani, Chama Cha Kazi, Umoja na Maendeleo party, Farmers Party, National Agenda Party of Kenya, and Economic Freedom Party.

Malalah commended the parties and their leaders for their decision to work together towards a common goal.

“Our dream is beyond personalities. Our plan is based on policies that have proven their worth and have already started working for Kenyans,” he added.

Malalah, who was recently appointed as UDA secretary-general, has been advocating for the dissolution of the over 18 political parties affiliated with the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

But some leaders associated with the Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya parties have protested the plan to merge Kenya Kwanza parties under UDA.

Under the Political Parties Act, upon receiving a request, the Registrar of Political Parties will gazette the dissolution of political parties and transfer their records, assets, liabilities, rights, and obligations to UDA, including their entitlement to the Political Parties Fund under Section 25 of the Act.
