Ngong Land Registrar Arrested for Demanding Sh2.5 Million Bribe to Process a Title Deed

A land registrar based at the Ngong Land Registry has been arrested on allegations of demanding a Sh2.5 million bribe from a Kenyan in order to process a title deed.

Charles Mwendwa Mutua was arrested on Monday by officers from Kilimani police station after he was caught receiving Sh900,000, which was a bargain from the aforesaid bribe.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said the suspect was arrested following a series of investigations against him.

This was after a complaint was presented to the anti-graft agency claiming that Mutua, in collusion with his senior Caroline Simuli Kituyi, is notorious for demanding huge bribes for title deeds to be processed.

“On 7th December 2022, the Commission received a report from a member of the public who alleged that both Caroline Simuli Kituyi and Charles Mwendwa Mutua based at Ngong Land Registry were demanding a bribe from him in order to process the Title Deeds of his land,” EACC said.

EACC said investigations established that the accusations were indeed true, prompting detectives to make the arrest.

Detectives are also in pursuit of Kituyi who is said to have evaded arrest and has been ordered to present herself to Integrity Centre Police Station.

Mutua is being held at Kilimani police station pending further processing.

Good job! Nab them all. But this one is a low hanging fruit. Go for the kill. Catch the major eaters. The big fish in the Ivory tower who brandish corruption- loot without a care- as if they have license to steal.

You work and sacrifice so much to save and buy land then some fool wants you to pay him Sh2.5M to do what he gets paid to do. How do these kind of people sleep peacefully?

The small thieves are being held in polices while Ruto’s corruption friends get away with crimes of theft and corruption. These two fools are demanding these huge bribes because they can see the immorality of stealing in the Ruto government. Sentence both of them to death; it is only way corruption can be stopped in Kenya – chop off their fingers!

All departments that have to do with the land are rife with corruption. At Kakamega land registry, there is a conspicuous sign discouraging bribes.I think people laugh at whoever put it there…
People get killed for land, families torn apart, widows kicked off their rightful land, brother not seeing eye to eye, step brothers not considered”bona fide” family members thus not worthy any inheritance. It’s a mess. This human greed is not going away soon. The only solution is to severely punish the offenders, and hope others would learn from it. And families dont be ashamed if the kid asks where is papa.Tell the kid papa is in jail for stealing, committing a serious crime. And if the kid says, but papa always tells me that stealing is bad…ohh I get it only adults can steal.I guess I will just have to wait. And the culture of crime perpetuates.
