Gachagua Prays for Rains While Facing Mount Kenya

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday morning took a hike to Mt Kenya for a second consecutive day to pray for the country and its leadership.

Gachagua said he prayed to God to bring rain to the country, which is facing its worst drought in 40 years after four successive failed rainy seasons.

“I came to this mountain because it is at high altitude, and we consider that it is not very far away from heaven where our God stays. I came to pray for wisdom of the president and the transformation of our economy,” he said.

Through Twitter, Gachagua noted that “there is a certain calmness about nature that reminds us of who we are as human beings.”

“To come this close to the wonders of the world and to marvel at the works of God is a truly refreshing experience. Mt. Kenya is mythical. It is mysterious,” he wrote.

Speaking on the banks of the River Rikki whose waters have significantly reduced due to failed rains, the deputy president said Kenyans must work together to combat climate change.

“We must all play our part in combating climate change. We must double our efforts to protect our environment. Even as we pray for divine intervention, we will do what we must,” he said.

“We cannot deal with drought as an emergency. We must have sustainable solutions to this. We will build dams and pans so that we can move away from rain-fed agriculture to irrigation.”

“The ministry of Water and Irrigation is already working to set up over 30 dams as a sustainable intervention to combat the effects of climate change,” he added.

  1. Traditions indeed die hard…
Traditions indeed die hard.Largely because we perpetuate them. That is whether they make sense or not. I personally believe that there is no way prayers can induce rain.Much like there is no way prayers an heal a broken hand,or heart for that matter. However, I will concede that prayers induce the feel good sentiments in those who pray.
Prayers are purely a survival trait from way back when…When you are out of solutions to your problems, but still want them solved, you have to somehow believe that there is some supernatural powers somewhere that can deliver solutions.

      @Maxiley,

The Buddhists have their God that they pray to.
Christians have their God that they pray to
Muslims have their God that they pray to
Africans are moving back to their God that their ancient one’s prayed to before they got derailed by foreign intervention.( foreign gods)
Prayers are in every human being as a way of reconnecting with their creator.
For the Africans, the time is now.
Stand on their way, you will be crashed by the wave, move aside and you will witness a spectacular sight of a people reconnecting with their creator. This will create peace and harmony in the world. Your beliefs are yours. Live and let live. Soon everyone will be guided by their spirit- good or bad!!

      • @Anonymous traditions…
@Anonymous traditions include beliefs, information, and customs handed down from prior generation to the next.Beliefs includes religion,or belief in God or gods.So I do not get your point.Could you please elaborate.
My contention is that no amount of prayers would make rain, and you can extend that to no amount of beliefs can make rain,Short of the “scientific way”.But if you argue that science is part of your beliefs, then you may have a point, but that’s not what Gachagua is doing…

  2. PRAYERS AND LACK OF …
PRAYERS AND LACK OF “CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS” IN OUR DAILY LIVES:

Our current schools have failed to teach students on the important non-academic topic known as “Critical Thinking Skills.”
Prayers belong to the department of superstition. I would like to challenge all Kenyans who believe in “prayers” to humbly pray for the immediate and quick end of corruption, nepotism, theft of public funds and property in the nation within three months from today.
