Uasin Gishu Commissioner Threatens to Fire Local Chiefs over Low Turnout at Jamhuri Day Fete

Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Edison Nyale has read the riot act to local chiefs over poor attendance at Monday’s Jamhuri Day celebrations.

While threatening to fire the chiefs, Nyale accused the local administrators of failing to execute their work in mobilizing people to attend the national function held at Kapsoya Secondary School grounds in Eldoret.

“Chiefs, is it that you can no longer do your work? Or how else can you explain this? This means people no longer have faith in you so when you tell them to show up for events like this, where very senior people like the county commissioner and the governor, who is coming to listen to their needs, they cannot come,” the county commissioner posed.

“Are we supposed to address empty seats? Do you want us to take action on all those caps you are wearing? We do not want to witness such a low turnout from Uasin Gishu, the president’s county.”

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, who graced the event, appeared to defend the chiefs, blaming the low turnout on a section of local leaders who are determined to sabotage his administration.

“I hear you on the issue of low turnout, but I do not want to blame the chiefs for it. I have been told that some people are sabotaging my government, and I do not know yet who they are and if you are among the suspects,” Bii said.

“Matters of national holidays are of very big importance. Before, you would see flags at every shop as it remains closed until speeches are done.”

What an idiot. Attendance should be voluntary. You cannot force people to celebrate something unless they are really into it. Maybe they did not want to come listen to your ignorant ranting. Or maybe they were out looking for unga.
