Nairobi Governor Sakaja Rejects Sh500 Million Budget for Official Residences

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has rejected a Sh500 million budget set aside for the construction of official residences for him and Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri, saying they are not a priority.

Insisting that his administration’s priority is to better the lives of Nairobi residents, Governor Sakaja said the money will instead be used to fund other key projects such as the building of markets for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMSE) in Nairobi.

“I have just seen a budget which is allocating Sh500 million for the construction of Governor’s and Deputy Governor’s houses. I have asked them to reallocate the money to other priority projects like construction of markets and creating jobs for our young people,” Sakaja stated.

“I already have a place where I live, why do I need Sh500 million for another residence. Let’s work for our people.”

Sakaja, who spoke in Kibra when he accompanied President William Ruto to launch Soweto East Zone B Social Housing Program on Tuesday, has pledged to put up at least 20 new markets across the city for traders.

The plan to acquire homes for the new Nairobi Governor and Deputy Governor for Sh500 million is contained in the Nairobi County Annual Development Plan for the financial year ending June 30th, 2023.

  1. Sakaja should be the next…
Sakaja should be the next president of Kenya! What a breath of fresh air? Meanwhile, Mpigs are salivating to be given millions to buy a luxury car- although they already own cars and millions for house mortgage although they already own houses. Mpigs are dying to get hold of the corruption money they call CDF. Where are more Sakajas when you need them?

  2. But he still did not explain…
But he still did not explain how he is going to get an official residence for the Nairobi Governor. An official residence belongs to the government, not individual. Not having one is lack of foresight.

I always rooted for this guy. I think if he plays his politics well, he can vie for the highest seat but let me not get ahead of myself… power corrupts even the innocent
