The Supreme Court will on Tuesday hold a pre-trial conference on the presidential petitions challenging president-elect William Ruto’s victory.
In a statement, the judiciary said the pre-trial conference will be held at Milimani Law Courts ceremonial hall at 11.00 am.
During the session, the court is expected to frame both the contested and the uncontested matters in the petition, consider the consolidation of petitions, determine the number of advocates that the court will hear on behalf of each party, allocate time for each party, and give directions specifying the place and time of the main hearing of the petition.
Eight petitions have been lodged at the Supreme Court seeking to overturn the election of Ruto, who was declared the winner of the August 9th general election.
Ruto, who vied on a UDA party ticket, garnered 7,176,141 (50.49 percent) votes, flooring his main challenger Raila Odinga, who managed 6,942,930 votes (48.85 percent).
Odinga, who is among the eight petitioners, is seeking 23 reliefs among them an order for inspection of IEBC servers, and scrutiny of the rejected and spoilt votes.
He is further seeking an order for scrutiny and forensic audit of the Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (KIEMS) kits, IEBC portal, and the presidential election forms (forms 34A, 34B and 34C).
Odinga also wants the apex court to issue an order invalidating Ruto’s victory and compelling the electoral commission to organize a fresh presidential election in strict conformity with the Constitution and election laws.
The seven-judge bench of the apex court has until September 5th to hear and deliver a ruling on the presidential election petitions.
