UDA’s Senator Sakaja Trounces Igathe to Win Nairobi Governor Seat

Senator Johnson Sakaja of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party is the new governor of Nairobi.

Sakaja was declared the winner of the city’s gubernatorial race on Sunday after garnering 699,392 votes, edging his closest competitor Polycarp Igathe of the ruling Jubilee Party who managed 573,516 votes.

“To the people of Nairobi, I will not let you down… Expect a new Nairobi of hope, order and dignity. You are in safe hands with me and my deputy Njoroge Muchiri,” Sakaja said after being declared the winner.

Igathe took to social media to concede defeat, saying he accepts the decision of the people of Nairobi and congratulated Sakaja on his election.

“I accept the decision of the people of Nairobi and thank all our supporters. The Governor of Nairobi is His Excellency Johnson Sakaja. Congratulations! God bless Kenya,” he tweeted.

Independent Candidate Anne Kagure came in third with 10,086 votes

In the senatorial race, ODM’s Edwin Sifuna was declared the winner having secured 716,651 votes, beating his main competitor Bishop Margaret Wanjiru of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) who got 524,091 votes.

“I want to thank all of you, the people of Nairobi, for honoring me with this position and I want to assure you that you know my capacity, my work and my ability. I will serve you diligently every day that I wake up… sitawaangusha,” Sifuna said in his acceptance speech.

Incumbent Esther Passaris of ODM won the Woman Representative seat after garnering 698,929 ahead of her main challenger UDA Party’s Millicent Omanga who came in second with 586,246 votes.

    How have Kenyans(minus office holders) benefited from the four seats,I.e,governor,deputy,senator and women rep since 2012?A-ZERO.But there has been negative results of taking expensive loans to loot after salary payments.Time is ripe for a revolution.How will the loans be repaid with the type of corruption in Kenya?
