Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) says 6,567,869 Kenyans had cast ballots by midday on Tuesday, translating to about 30 percent of the total registered voters.
In a media briefing, IEBC Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera said most polling stations opened at 6.00 am across the country and in the diaspora.
Voting in the diaspora is taking place in 12 countries including the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, Canada, Qatar, South Sudan and Germany.
There are 10,444 registered voters in the diaspora, representing 0.05 percent of the total 22,120,458 voters for the 2022 elections. 4,223 Kenyans living and working abroad participated in the 2017 elections.
IEBC said voting in the diaspora will happen from 6.00 am to 5.00 pm at their local time.
At the same time, Cherera announced that the commission has allowed the use of a manual voter register in Makueni County for 84 polling stations and Kakamega County for 154 polling stations.
