Kenyan Woman Takes Own Life After Tragic Death of Her Seven-Year-Old Son

A Kenyan woman in Kikuyu, Kiambu County has reportedly taken her own life following the tragic death of her only son last month.

On July 16th, Cecy Gaitho penned an emotional post on Facebook eulogizing her son Wisdom Martin Gaitho, who died in an accident in Kidfarmaco, Kikuyu. The seven-year-old boy was reportedly hit by a moving culvert on a construction site which crushed his head, killing him on the spot.

“Today marks exactly 40 days since you grew wings. Nothing has been the same, the constant ache in my heart gets worse by the minute. I haven’t been able to come to terms with the loss and I keep looking outside, hoping you will come back,” Cecy wrote on her Facebook page.

“Tears have become my daily food, the emptiness I feel is immense. We had our family dreams, just me and you. The better part of me died the day you breathed your last. I want to wake up beside you like you always did. I want to laugh at your jokes, smile at your brilliance, and do the many things we did together.”

Cecy went on to note that she had nothing left to live for following the death of her son.

“For now, the emptiness continues to give me that glare. I hate the very thought of my existence while you lie six feet under. I miss you baby, so so much. You were my world, kibeti changu. I have nothing else left to live for. I want to protect you, hug you, chum your cute cheeks and tell you how much I love you. Even in death, I love you,” she added.

The lady is said to have committed suicide due to depression resulting from her son’s sudden death, according to her friends.

Am hate to say this but the mothers act of taking her own life should not be looked as heroic in any way.

She seems to have had some underlying mental issues but to solve grief with more grief is something that cannot be tolerated and should be condemned.

After accepting her loss, she should have dedicated her life to helping other vulnerable members of the society to ease their pain and suffering. And maybe learn a lesson or two from their stories.

    • Oh my, @Mohandas. Yours,…
Oh my, @Mohandas. Yours, surely, is borne of total ignorance… thinking that everyone handles issues, be they of grief or joy. exactly the same. That;s the worst pointing finger I’ve seen in long time. No words.
RIP Cecy and son….. you were a loving mother no doubt…. grief counselling would have helped had someone known.

    • Who has said what she did…
Who has said what she did was heroic? Where does it say she accepted her loss? She was depressed and needed help herself. Which lesson had she not learnt? Shenzi wewe.

@mohandss : ajuae uchungu wa mwana ni mzazi. From your comment, I advice you freely to seek a reproductive doctor to help you see if you are viable or impotent(Tasa in swahili)..I bet you’re the latter .You’re very insensitive, unempathetic, and sadly so mentally impotent.

  3. Churches and Pastors are…
Churches and Pastors are Doing a very POOR job when it Comes to COUNSELING their Bereaved. No wonder the Christian COMMUNITY is the most DEPRESSED Community Compared to Other religions.

  4. Love is deeper than death…
Love is deeper than death. It’s overcoming the pain, it’s not a good thing to do, it can be depression leading to mental illness, all the same she can feels her son death and feels that nothing else can compensate her son present, in this case we cannot judge. May they rest in peace.
