IEBC Responds to Questions on the Legitimacy of Raila’s Degree

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has responded to questions about the legitimacy of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s degree.

On Wednesday, IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein said the presidential returning officer Wafula Chebukati, who also chairs the electoral commission, did due diligence on Odinga’s academic qualifications before clearing him to vie for the presidency.

“By the time he was clearing him (Odinga), he had certified himself that the candidate met all the legal requirements. To that extent I would say that Hon Raila Odinga actually met the requirements,” Marjan said during an interview on NTV.

Marjan spoke a day after United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party called for a scrutiny of the academic credentials of Odinga, who is giving his fifth try at the presidency.

UDA secretary-general Veronica Maina said there was a need to look into the authenticity of the academic credentials of Odinga and other presidential candidates.

“You have seen a lot of headlines questioning the university that our biggest opponent Raila Amolo Odinga qualified from. It is a very big question which needs to be looked at, not through the lens of just one candidate, but a wider public question,” Maina said on Citizen TV’s Day Break program on Tuesday.

She also questioned Roots Party Presidential candidate Prof. George Wajackoyah’s alleged 17 degrees, saying they should be double-checked to ascertain whether they are genuine.

“The institutions that trained him should tell us whether he actually has 14 degrees or 7, and how many are recognized or not. It is a bigger question of what qualifications should a politician have before they assume a public office, and it has been a subject of litigation,” she added.

Maina is fighting a dying battle for Ruto a man known to have corruptly acquired his PhD in Nyasi science by paying others to attend classes for him and to do his shamba la wanyama thesis. Just look at Oscar Sudi, Malala, Sakaja and many others within the UDAku ranks who have presented stolen degrees. They have all copied Ruto very well.

RAO the 5th president of the Republic of Kenya has a hard earned legitimate degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Kweli Kenya iko na wenyewe. I was expecting IEBC to confirm that the have certified copies of his high school and degree certificate, etc. Like they have done with other candidates. But for Raila, no, IEBC has done “due diligence”. Now, go figure what that means.

  3. The IEBC should respond by…
The IEBC should respond by publishing Raila’s primary school certificate. This is a public figure who has vied for presidency four times.
His integrity is in question after swearing himself as “peoples president ” using the Bible in public- No respect for God and no respect for our institutions.
We need a thorough investigation into his self proclaimed education.
The rumors about his dropping out of primary school at 6th grade.
    Not attending any high school.
Not going to college under any scholarship but being shipped to Germany by his father because the father could afford it.
Not achieving anything from this technical college.
Raila, a person who could not accept defeat four times.
A person who attempted to get to power by force because he was impatient.
Kenyans need proof he was patient enough to acquire his primary school certificate.
Kenyans need proof he was patient enough to acquire his high school certificate.
Kenyans need proof he was patient enough to acquire a college degree.
Let us keep watching this space.
It’s time for revelation and restoration.
If Raila has not attained any of the above, it will be revealed by someone, something or an event.
Anyone trying to cover for him will be exposed.
    Let the best man win!!!

I really don’t think a candidate’s academic achievements past high school should be an issue. The issue should be passing an integrity test.

I am gravely disturbed by what is going on in politics, concerning candidates’ education level. I do not understand why it is so hard to authenticate certificates presented,or to confirm a candidates claim as to their academic qualifications.
All these attack and counter attacks on one’s education,or there lack of is being played in media while the relevant bodies that should put this matter to rest are silent.
Where is the Commission for University Education? Where is the Kenya National Qualifications Authority.Dont they have qualified staff to look in to these matters and respond to the public since they have vested interest?
Ijust read that Sakaja is now blamming president Uhuru for his questionable credentials. Is he serious? All he has to do is produce the certificates, and let the relevant bodies authenticate.Did he give Uhuru his certificates for safe keeping?
Two months to election and the IEBC still does not have a bonafide list of candidates ! what the heck is going on. I now see why someone was suggesting the elections be postiponed …to a later date.

@Maxiley, for the sake of your good health, do not be gravely disturbed. Be happy there is a glimpse of hope; that politicians are finally being held accountable. Sakaja blaming Uhuru is just a smoke screen, a red herring.
