There was panic in Kinoo, Kiambu County on Friday morning after a building under construction partially collapsed.
A video widely circulated on social media shows the six-storey structure wobbling as residents watch from a distance.
Although the building near Kinoo shopping centre has not fully collapsed, locals fear it could tumble down soon.

Kiambu police commander Ali Nuno said no construction workers are trapped in the unfinished residential building.
“The building is sinking. No one was inside at the time,” Nuno Nation.
Tenants in the adjacent houses were forced to vacate to avert the looming danger.
Area MCA Samuel Kimani said the owner of the building had received a notice prohibiting him from adding another floor.
The incident comes days after a five-storey residential building collapsed in Gachie, Kiambu County.
Three construction workers who were trapped in the rubble died while more than 10 were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.

We’re using bulky materials – solid bricks and not using strong approved mortar support material- high up there at 5th storey and up;thereby burdening and over straining the structure that ends up collapsing on its own weight. There are lighter and strong building materials such us wood and steel that can be utilized without compromising the safety,quality and longevity of the finished building. Right now, we’re endangering people’s lives and wasting a lot of money and resources. It should be mandatory for building engineers to inspect any building intended for public use that is more than 3 storey.

@ Mwororo,all you have said contribute to the structural integrity of the building.But if the building is SINKING,I would think that the problem may be with zoning. What this means is that probably IBC- international building codes were flouted. Before you erect abulding,material notwithstanding,one has to make sure that the land on which the building will be on is safe…

Most of high rise buildngs in Kiambu County are not safe to live or occupy because of the high level of corruption involved in building them. Personally I better uber to Naivasha or Athi river rather than rent a room to spend a night in Kiambu County. Kiambu County is the mother and father of corruption in Kenya
