Siaya Senator James Orengo has asked MPs to summon Deputy President William Ruto over his links to deported Turkish man Harun Aydin.
Orengo wants Ruto to appear before the National Assembly Committee on National Security to shed light on his relationship with Aydin, whose activities in the country were suspect.
Speaking on Friday during the burial of David Nyakwamba, the father of Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang’ and Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’, Orengo cited a case where South African President Cyril Ramaphosa gave evidence before MPs.
“We must summon Ruto before the parliamentary committee to speak on these matters and give us an answer. Let him come before the parliamentary committee,” said Orengo.
“Since this man was deported there has been no protest note from the Turkish government because they know his habit,” added Orengo.
The senator argued that the evidence tabled by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i before the Security committee on Friday is sufficient to put Ruto to his defense.
CS Matiang’i told the House team that Aydin, 55, was a criminal who used some VIPs to gain entry into the country twice without his passport being stamped.
He added that the foreigner was on the security radar of other East African countries over his movements.
“We noticed he was moving around Zanzibar, South Sudan, and Entebbe (Uganda). One of our sister security agents flagged out this gentleman that he was moving around and some of his associates were people involved in money laundering,” Matiang’i said.
He added: “We looked at his passport and realized that he has left the country twice without his passport having been stamped. This means he sneaked out. He had stamps of departure but no stamp of arrival into the country. All these are characteristics of an undesirable immigrant.”
Aydin was part of a team that was set to accompany Ruto during his private trip to Uganda last week.
Ruto canceled the trip after he was barred from flying to the neighboring country by immigration officers at Wilson Airport as he did not have clearance from President Kenyatta.
Aydin was arrested on arrival at Wilson Airport from Uganda last Saturday and was removed from the country two days later.
