Police Arrest Turkish Businessman Associated with Deputy President William Ruto

A Turkish businessman associated with Deputy President William Ruto was on Saturday arrested by security officers in Nairobi.

Harun Aydin, who was in Ruto’s aborted trip to Uganda, was arrested at Wilson Airport in Nairobi upon arriving in the country and was taken to Kilimani police station before being transferred to the anti-terror offices on Ngong Road where he was locked.

“Together with the lawyers at the Anti-Terror Nairobi Offices on Ngong Road where Harun Aydin is locked, we have been denied access,” MP Oscar Sudi said.

The foreigner was set to accompany Ruto to Uganda for a private visit alongside Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, his Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi and businessmen David Lagat, David Muge, Simon Mogun, and Nelson Kisalit.

The seven flew to the neighboring country on Monday but the deputy president was blocked from boarding a private jet at Wilson Airport where he was stranded for five hours. He was forced to cancel the trip after immigration officials insisted he must have a travel clearance from President Kenyatta as required of all State officials.

But in an interview on Wednesday, Ruto maintained he does not need any clearance to travel abroad on private trips. “I have been a Deputy President for 9 years and I have traveled to many places. I have never been asked to produce clearance,” said Ruto.

Ruto further defended the presence of Turkish businessman Aydin, who has been linked to terrorism activities, saying he is a well-known investor as confirmed by the Turkish embassy in Nairobi.

“The Turkish embassy itself has issued a statement saying he is a recognized businessman and has a work permit. There are those who want to destroy saying he is a terrorist,” he added.

The deputy president confirmed he helped Aydin obtain a Sh15 billion loan from Equity Bank to set up a vaccine plant in Uganda.

With establishment of businesses in Kenya, at least some reduction of unemployment would be witnessed. Why would the Kenya Deputy President ignore the youth in Kenya who he calls Hustlers, and instead helps someone to invest in Uganda so that the Uganda Hustlers can benefit. Does he assume that all is all well for the Kenya Hustlers with wheelbarrows?. Does he think that the Kenya Hustlers do not want employment and instead they only need wheelbarrows? Why then doesn’t the Deputy President William Ruto go and run for President in Uganda instead of in Kenya, where he is favoring with investments and not wheelbarrows?

      The big four agenda which was to come out in the second term of the two principals was divided and killed by handshake. The deputy president has been put in the cold since then. Things like bringing in a friend to do business in Kenya , it’s processing are among the ones that the handshake government would not let him. He’s being frustrated from all angles. He is barely survives but just for the name DP!
      Medicine or any thing medical in Kenya is expensive and scarce. Ruto has told us the the same guy he helped was reciprocating by getting his supplies at half price. Any one politically sane as you will see that this is already a benefit to Kenya.

    He is a “business man” but no one knows what he trades in. Obtaining a loan of 15B in Uganda shillings is Ksh 400 Million. This could very well be Arap Mashamba using this guy and Equity Bank to sanitize his loot hidden in Uganda, perhaps in M7 many bedrooms.     Yesterday (August 06, 2021), Ndugu Kalonzo Musyoka pointed out that, during the last election over one hundred contestants were cleared to run for an elective public office yet they did not meet Chapter 6 minimum standards of our New Constitution.

    All Kenyans must demand that come 2022, all contestants must forward their names in advance and wait to be cleared to run for an elective public office after a thorough character review. We should empower the DCI (Directorate of Criminal Investigation) and the EACC (The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission) to save our nation by clearing people who will be public servants but not opportunists who want to own the meagre wealth of our nation while ignoring the millions of poor and destitute people of our Kenya.

    We, the people must demand that, DCI and the EACC stop candidates who have a questionable past and make sure that, they are not presented to the public for a vote. Unless we change the way we allow any “Tom, Dick, and Harry” run for office, Kenya will eventually slide into oblivion.
