Meet a Young Kenyan Couple Making over Sh1.5 Million Monthly from YouTube

Kenyan YouTuber Mungai Eve and her boyfriend Director Trevor have disclosed how much they make from the video platform.

The couple spoke during a recent interview where they revealed that they earn more than Sh1.5 million every month from their channel which has over 151,000 subscribers.

Eve pointed out that the channel was her boyfriend’s brainchild and was not familiar with social media ecosystem at the time they launched it.

Their first-ever cheque from YouTube was worth Sh100,000 but took time to access the money due to security protocols. They monetized their content within a week of creating the channel.

“We got to YouTube in December and that first month we made Ksh100,000,” Trevor noted.

The couple says YouTube rewards hard work based on content and the number of views.

“The more views you get the more the revenue increases. What I get this month may not be the same amount next month,” said Eve.

Trevor noted: “The reason we make money from YouTube is that our previous videos are still being watched.”

A spot check on the Mungai Eve YouTube channel showed it has attracted over 18 million views since its launch in January 2020.

The channel focuses on unscripted real-life experiences of youths from informal settlements. It is credited for the unearthing of Madocho wa Kanairo, a self-styled sheng master.
