Lupita Nyong'o's Mother Dorothy Feted in the US for Empowering Women

Kisumu County First Lady Dorothy Nyong’o has been feted in the US for her efforts in empowering women.

Dorothy, who is the wife of Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, was feted at the Woman of Magnitude Awards (WOMA) 2021 ceremony held in New York over the weekend.

The prestigious international award recognizes trailblazers who dedicate their time to support women’s agenda in society.

Dorothy is the Managing Trustee of Africa Cancer Foundation (ACF), where she advocates for healthcare after her husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer 10 years ago.

She uses her position to create awareness on the prevention, management, and treatment of cancer.

Through Africa Cancer Foundation, she is positive that the continent will achieve the cancer-free Africa dream.

Together with her daughter Lupita Nyong’o, Dorothy was last year recognized by New York’s Harlem School of the Arts for the Visionary Lineage Award.

The event recognized extraordinary black women who lead by example as advocates for the importance of arts education through their inspiring accomplishments.

In 2019, she bagged the Harvard Global Health Catalyst Cancer Advocacy Champion Award at the Global Health Catalyst (GHC) summit, a premier annual event held at Harvard.

  1. This family wouldn’t be this…
This family wouldn’t be this far without proceeds of corruption. Let’s all be honest.

  2. “Through Africa Cancer…
“Through Africa Cancer Foundation, she is positive that the continent will achieve the cancer-free Africa dream.”Its always good to aim high, but that statement is too ambitious.Even the most advanced countries in the medical fields have hardly made that claim. But if that happens, well, and good for africa.

  3. awards based on your…
awards based on your relationships instead of merit, don’t add value to society. They would not recognize her if it were not for her daughter. how come we never heard about her cancer work until now? I am glad she making a difference in the field of cancer. More power to her and th3 foundation.

    • Mama Paulo, please lets be…
Mama Paulo, please lets be fair here. You would not have heard of that just by your gender alone. Her benefactors typically are male OK? Not just any male, but men over 50yrs old. In the U.S few men even know what good food reduce prostro issues (Hint veggies, njumus frequntly help). The typical kenyan lets admit has far more pressing issues and those rare few that make it to 50 yrs (Over 75% of knyans are under 30yrs) are targts. At first I was just like you very sceptical but as I read further, it appears the title is what is misleading. The Harlem award group is not an elite wazungu club of tajiris but more for true NGOs affecting poorer folk. I get the point though that MPs are the last to be worried over for health with OUR tax money used either by hook or crook, but I think the charity if it truly exists as defined serves a useful part of society.
Now as for her daughter, huyo ndio ametombwa na hawo ma brad pitt and george clooney. Wale ambao wamemu discover and given her limelight and roles. She is not as fake as a lot of others out there and does uplifting black/african roles sio ujinga ya Elsa majimbo.
