Kenyan Police Officer Robbed of Sh1.5 Million in Cash and a Ceska Pistol

Police in Nakuru are searching for a suspect who allegedly stole Sh1.5 million and a loaded pistol from a policeman’s car in Gilgil town.

Bernard Nderu, an officer based at the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) headquarters in Gilgil, was robbed of the money and firearm while taking his lunch at a local hotel on Monday, according to a police report.

He had earlier visited the KCB Bank branch within the township and withdrew the money before driving to Calvina Hotel to have lunch. He parked his Toyota Double Cabin pickup truck outside the hotel.

While taking his lunch, Nderu heard his car’s alarm beeping and looked outside and saw “an unknown African male breaking into his car driver’s door using a duplicate key.”

The officer said the thief made away with a bag containing Sh1.5 million in cash and his Ceska pistol that was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect then drove away towards Naivasha in a white Mazda car registration number KCZ 815H.

Gilgil OCS Albert Kipchumba said officers visited the scene and have since launched investigations as a manhunt for the suspect continues.

The matter is being handled by Gilgil-based Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives.

This is gross negligence on the part of the officer. With that kind of cash, why is he lollygagging around without the cash in his possession ?You dont leave that kind of cash in the car, unless atrusted friend is inside keeping an eye.As for the gun, was the officer on duty?

  3. This story does not add up…
This story does not add up. How did the suspect acquire a duplicate key and of all vehicles parked in front of the hotel how come the thief only targeted his? What about the run away vehicle registration number KCZ 815H? It is extremely unusual for a thief in a car to randomingly target a vehicle in a highly trafficked public, use a duplicate key and get away with such kind of money. Conclusion: Either the story is fake or the wife and her conspirators or his confidantes who knew his plans were following him and knew he was withdrawing that kind of money. What was he going to do with the money by the way, in Kenya you don’t carry such amount in cash!!!. Inside job to conclude
