Over 700,000 Kenyans Vaccinated Against COVID-19

702,170 Kenyans have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 across the country, the Health Ministry has said.

The number includes 397,539 people aged 58 years and above, 141,146 healthcare workers, 106,147 teachers, and 57,338 security officers.

Data released by the Health Ministry on Monday shows that the number of men who have been inoculated against the disease is higher than that of women. 393,261 men have received the jab while the number of women who have been vaccinated stands at 308,526.

Nairobi county has the highest number of COVID-19 vaccine recipients with 223,992 followed by Nakuru (42,145), Uasin Gishu (35,543), Kiambu (35,224), and Nyeri (25,345).

On the other hand, Marsabit has the least number of those who have been inoculated with 427 followed by Lamu (469), and Tana River (675).

Kenya launched the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign on March 5th, days after it received the first batch of 1.02 million doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine through the global COVAX facility.

The government said frontline workers such as healthcare professionals, teachers, and security personnel would be given priority.
