Kenya Red Cross Reacts as Drunk Ambulance Driver Causes Accident

The Kenya Red Cross has denied reports that patients were injured after one of its ambulances was involved in an accident.

The ambulance operated by Red Cross affiliate, Emergency Plus Ambulance Services crashed in Kabarnet, Baringo County on Saturday evening.

Reports indicate that the emergency vehicle was being steered by a drunk driver and was ferrying patients to Kabarnet County Referral Hospital.

It was being driven at high speed when it lost control and rolled at Ratanbei area, a few kilometers from the health facility.

In a statement on Sunday, the Kenya Red Cross acknowledged that the ambulance was involved in an accident but refuted claims that it was carrying patients.

“We can confirm that contrary to earlier reports there was no patient on board and no one was injured in the accident. An internal investigation has been launched by E-PLus while we also await the official police report on the incident,” the organization said.

“…As emergency responders who take public safety as a top priority, Kenya Red Cross says that its drivers and operators are highly trained to operate under strict professional protocols aimed at ensuring safety.”
